Basically yes. Or 'knowledge gained by the senses has its limitations' or whatever.

Only along the way, after it became clear he had nothing of philosophical interest to say, he got called on his 'I did a Masters in philosophy' claim, did the usual thing about 'It's authenticated on online resources you don't have access to', got called on that too, and then refused to post even a scan of the page of his thesis with the professors' signatures on it, because he claimed we would believe him even then. (He says the thesis was in his in real life name of 'Simon Fuchs' by the way, an identity for which no verifiable online evidence is available either. 'In the world, but not of it', one might say.)

And so on. Boring, isn't he?

I don't really believe in banning people from boards, but if I did I would suggest banning Belmont as a kind of electronic euthanasia, in order to stop him humiliating himself any further and boring the rest of us stiff in the process.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Chap, you really wouldn't want to take Kish's ball of yarn away from him, would you?

Let us say, hypothetically, that you are holding an apple in your hand. What thinking process do you internally go through in order to prove to yourself that the apple exists, and that it is an apple?

Now, before you all say "Oh no! Not another Belmont 'nothing exists' thread," humor me. I have a reason for asking.

Emphasis added.

Hey Simon, get to the point. Many have humored you, now what is your reason for asking? Please tell us now. The suspense is killing us.

I am a janitor at a local middle school in Nebraska. I dropped out of high school to take this job, which I've been at for 17 years.

What are you talking about, Simon?

If this is what it takes for the discussion to stop being about me and resume being about discussion, then I am a custodian at a local middle school in Nebraska.

No thesis, no education, no knowledge of any kind. A dull, uninspired, dimwitted TBM. Okay?

Simon, you're going to have to quit lying if you want discussion of you to stop.

Simon,

In the interest of giving your OP a fair shake, my honest answer to the question is I don't question if I have an apple in my hand or if it therefore exists.

I'm not sure I ever have or would.
