If you are wondering whether I ever count myself in with the swine the answer to that is "yes."

Additionally, I don't view the "pearls before swine" comment as an insult.

Scratch: I'm not sure. I've not heard any of them personally testify of such (any of the current living apostles, anyway.) As for some who have gone before, I believe some had encounters with the resurrected Christ.

You're not the only one who feels this way. In the second of Quinn's Mormon Hierarchy books, he prevents a very convincing case that spiritual visitations have dwindles away over time. In other words, whereas Joseph Smith and other of the early Brethren experienced real epiphanies and actual visions, the Brethren of today tend more to experience only a "warm feeling," as Pres. Oaks described to Steve Benson. This all represents the gradual secularization of the Church.

Was Quinn referring to spiritual visitations in general or just those directed to the General Authorities?

???? What could possibly happen? Come now, Nehor, you are the one who so often pooh-poohs away "conspiracy theory" about the SCMC and so forth, and yet here you are, afraid to tell us a little ol' name or two? I really fail to see what you are so afraid of. Just tell us.

Grad school seminars is a pretty loose way of describing it. Also, it is not limited to the Apostles.

Could you elaborate a bit? Are you saying that this anonymous Apostle told all of you that others (and who might they be? are these rank-and-file members who have received the Second Anointing?) got to "learn at the feet of Christ" alongside the Apostles?

I'm not afraid of the SCMC, I'm nervous about misrepresenting them in any way. I'm not afraid of names, I just want to be respectful....what's your name by the way? ;)

No, the one who spoke of this said that every church member is eligible to reach this state if they seek it and strive for it. Joseph Smith taught this as well.

There are folks all over the world claiming to see God, Jesus, Mary, Saints, Divine spirits, angles, aliens, assorted dieties, dead people, and even those spirits from the Satanic realm.

We certainly are not short of the claims... :-) I know quite a few folks from all sorts of faith traditions who "know" they are one of the few to receive some special gift or witness from the realm of the divine!

Personally, while the millions of folks who claim such things may truly believe in their story, I'm a little skeptical!

Not saying it couldn't happen but there are way too many folks with extraordinary claims all thinking they have the real truth... yet with conflicting truths.

:-)

This doesn't make any sense... It would be understood that you're merely offering your recollections. Why be "nervous" about that?

I'm not afraid of names, I just want to be respectful.

You have been entirely respectful, Nehor, and I fail to see how linking the messages with the speakers could possibly be misconstrued as "disrespectful." If anything, I would find it more respectful to give credit where it is due.

No, the one who spoke of this said that every church member is eligible to reach this state if they seek it and strive for it. Joseph Smith taught this as well.

I don't want to give credit to my understanding of what someone said to someone who has chosen (for whatever reason) to not make such a declaration in a publicly accessible forum. If this makes me less believable so be it.

No, not after death. In this life. Why wait?

Indeed, we certainly wouldn't expect them to report on Christ's visitations in General Conference, in front of 12 million members and assorted members of the press, now would we?

Ah, okay. Well, this demonstrates why you don't want to "name names." The reason is that this General Authority was preaching false doctrine. As you and Harmony have both pointed out, a rank-and-file member simply cannot have the same kind of access to "Christ's Grad Seminars" as an apostle. In essence, whoever this nameless apostle was, has committed a grievous error.
