That could explain my lack of experience with it, I suppose. I do know single men and women would be told not to despair, they would eventually be assigned a companion in heaven; having been steeped in Mormon culture from birth it probably went right over my head how odd it was if the presumptive norm for that afterlife companionship for women was polygamous.

That and maybe people know you are not sympathetic to the idea of polygamy? I don't know. All I can tell you is that I have personally witnessed, on more than one occasion, single women, divorced or never married, talk about the possibility of being some handsome, active LDS guy's plural spouse in the hereafter. My mother thinks polygamy was false and a huge mistake, so she dismissed such chatter right away.

I think if you spend a little time reflecting on the legacy of polygamy in Mormon culture you will see this is a no-brainer. If it were not a thing, someone would have to make it up because the situation is so ripe for the possibility.

Still, it actually is a thing.

OK. I get, I get it. Apparently a number of you were unaware that some LDS women do size up men in their wards in polygamy fantasies. I stand corrected.

Who said that women sizing up men in polygamy fantasies was, in itself, a huge part of Mormon culture?

I did not. It is, however, one example of an array of interesting expressions of sexuality (and its repression) that springs from the legacy of polygamy. If I had a dime for every time an LDS guy made a casual comment about that lady he would welcome into a polygamous marriage if given the opportunity.
