Devoted to Insulting Mormons?
Is this board devolving into one dedicated to insulting Mormons? I would invite you to examine the current type and content of many of the existing threads on this forum, in case you think this question is coming from left field. I am not sure if the arrival of Infymus has something to do with it, but the amount of insulting comments does have me concerned.
I preferred it when there was light hearted discussion.

I don't know that the board is dedicated to it. I think it's just a perk.
Hey, people can insult critics, too. There's no discrimination here.

Oh I've been here a very very long time, just haven't been posting.
I miss Mr. Scratch's posts, and the dialog between him and DCP.
Don't worry it will get back to normal, maybe. We don't want the Mormons here to get too complacent. Can't learn anything without a little contention, can we?

Ah, getting back to normal! I have been attempting to find that elusive little gem most of my life. Well, whether we can obtain normal or not, it would be good not to have a board devoted to putting Mormons down.

If you really think about it Moksha, this forum really should be named aptly, "The Disaffected MAAD Board" or better yet, its original title, "The Disaffected FAIR Board" because that is what it was. When Dr. Shades created this area, it was a perfect place for those of you who could not say what you wanted to say on FAIR and now MAAD. You had a voice and that is why it worked out so well for so long.
Now after so long a time, it has become just another forum, unfortunately named after a Mormon Prison Cell - "The Terrestrial Forum". Many of the posters who originally posted here have healed and it has served its purpose - quite well I may add.
When Daniel C. Peterson finally came out from behind his sock puppet and started posting, I was blown away. The great pontificating, verbosticating (hey mom, a new w3rd~!) man himself - one for whom I despise - was actually here, posting.
So back to your original post from earlier today: Yes, it has changed. It has stagnated for the last couple of months, with a wonderful gem or two coming from Mr. Scratch (yes, I'm a fan Scratchy), and a couple others on the comings and goings of the MAAD board. But other than that, not much has been really going on.
So truthfully, what is the name of the board now? Has it served the original purpose and it is time to move on? That is up to our dear Dr. Shades (who has footed the bill for this place, as I foot the bill for the Ex-Mormon Forums) and the posters.
All I did was stir the sediment in the pot, so to speak. :)

I have always found this forum insulting toward Mormons. Not every poster of course, but there are a few who thrive on insulting Mormons. Usually they do it in the telestial forum I see no change in this regard. Boards remind me of the ocean's waves. They tend to ebb in and out according to the sun and moon. The same for the MAAD board.
I think that the economy has something to do with it. A lot of nervousness out there. No time for chatter on the boards.

mok,
Maybe it's because I'm stuck home with an injury but, in reading some of the threads earlier, I found myself wanting to post critically about the nature of some posts I ran across that were how-best-to-describe-them...not exactly off color but unnecessarily sexual in content...at least sexual innuendo...and it kind of irked me when I thought about what a TBM (lurker or poster) reaction might be to seeing these in a regular thread.
I did read last evening some posts made by Infymus that were insulting but I haven't really picked up on any more than that.
I think that posts like the one you've made here are the kind that serves to "right" a board. When there is little moderation there does need to be community dialogue about the community itself.
Well, let's see what others have to say...

I don't miss Scratch's posts or dialogue between he and DCP at all. I found it to be terribly redundant as did others, just going by the comments that I've seen.
There are very few Mormons on this board, one could probably count them up on one hand. I see no reason to behave so obnoxiously as to offend them to the point that they'd rather not participate here.
As you well know, this board is heavy on the critic side and if LDS are driven away this board dies from it.
A "little contention" is far different than calling posters filthy names, Infymus.

The actions of Mormons is itself insulting. that's a fact, not an opinion. So the insulting of Mormons is warranted but is also subjective.

I learned in grade school that the kids who were mean-spirited in their insults (as opposed to playful in their jibes), and felt a pro-active need to be mean-spirited in their insults, and sought to justify their mean-spirited insults, did so as a reflex and self-protective reaction to their inner hurt (sadly and ironically in consequence to their own insultingly low sense-of-self), and as a dysfunctional attempt to level the "playing field"--or so they thought (though it often tended to repel others, thereby further negatively influencing the insulter's sense-of-self).
Regretably, I find the same dynamic in certain adults (I am speaking here of "adults" in terms of chronological age, not maturity wise).
Thanks, -Wade Englund-
