By their fruits shall ye know them...

Post by _Scottie »

I hear this defense all the time from apologists. That if the church were false, how could it bring forth such good fruits?

May I ask you to list any religions that are currently bringing forth bad fruits? Well, maybe radical Islam... Any others?

From what I can see, there are many, many good fruits in almost all religions, yet they are all false. How can this be?
If there's one thing I've learned from this board, it's that consensual sex with multiple partners is okay unless God commands it. - Abman

This is the biggest confusion for me. It is what my bish would tell me all the time. But then I also thought of when we are told that Satan makes good thinks look bad an bad things look good.

So which does one believe?

Bingo. Mormons do not hold the corner of the moral market, or the best children, or best families.

And Jesus did not invent nice.

Living outside of a Mormon majority, it is very easy to see the non Mormon and Mormon good, a.k.a. good in general. It permeates everyday life. You also see the bad across the spectrum.

Living as a Mormon inside of a Mormon majority, you tend to only see the extremes. Those doing good are assumed by Mormons to be members. Those doing bad things are assumed to be either not Mormon or inactive.

I grew up in such a town, just north of SLC. My Mormon leaders, teachers, institute instructors, parents, my friends, and even myself, all used the obvious bad people as examples of those who either made bad choices as a Mormon or a bad choice to not be a Mormon.

How many times have we heard other Mormons say, "He/she is such a nice man/woman.... even though he/she is not a member of the church... and its too bad they are not..."

Hmm... I see very few good fruits coming from the LDS Church. Perhaps, my vision is skewed because of the boards. Yet, that's most of what I have to base it on. There is oneupmanship, extrinsic rewards of good deeds, bizarre sexual problems, moral judgments that allow them to condemn others, very little tolerance, cruelty for those that step outside their norms, horrendous social pressure to fit within dictates that are ridiculous, chauvinistic thinking, little emphasis on charitable acts intrinsically stressed, appearance stressed, backstabbing, lying, selfishness, group think, and an us. vs them mentality that seems to perpetuate a mentality of persecution. Now, not saying that all show this sort of behavior, yet, from what I've witnessed on this board (from Mo's and ex-Mo's alike -- do you leave your indoctrination when you walk out the Church;) and MAD that is my overwhelming take with what LDS teaches members.

Oh, and it's fun to look at the 'outside world' and condemn them for being strange. Should I spill the beans on what I think of some Mormons? My best friend (she's about to join the board -- SHE LOVES POLYGAMY PORTER -- she's a full fledge Bitch that roller derbies for a living and takes no sh**) says I should stop holding my tongue? Whatcha think? I'm thinking if I tell some of these "fruits" what I thought of them and who they are that I'd go out of here with a bang -- and that would make me just like them.... hmmm... what to do?

Some LDS are good. Some of the people on this board are on my sh** list. :)
