On accountability

Post by _Scottie »

I was reading PP's story and his mention of the pressure to go on a mission brought back some memorites for me.

I remember that I was told if I didn't go on a mission, that I would be held accountable for the lost souls that I would have saved. God's judgement would be swift, and I would call the mountains down to hide me from His face because of the souls that could have been saved, but were not because I didn't serve.

Did you men hear similar things?

In my mind, things like this are borderline abusive. This fear based mind control absolutely infuriates me. It is wrong. No matter how righteous your intentions, to coerce an impressionable young man this is just wrong.

Along similar lines, I've always heard that parents will be held accountable for any children that go astray.

I should start keeping a list of all the threat tactics that the LDS church uses to keep the members in line.
