Shades of Evan Mecham

Here is satirist Eric D. Snider from yesterday's "Snide Remarks"

http://www.ericdsnider.com/snide/a-crock-of-buttars/

A Crock of Buttars

"I occasionally miss living in Utah. One of those times is when a state senator refers to an unpleasant bill as a "black baby -- a dark, ugly thing," apologizes to blacks for his remarks but makes a reference to lynch mobs in the apology, and then exasperatedly refers to African-Americans as "those people."

As a satirist, I have occasionally tried to make up characters as befuddled and clueless as Sen. Chris Buttars (R-West Jordan), but I've never come up with anything this funny..."

There was nothing racist in Buttars' remark. There was a lot of racism in those who set up a hue and cry about it though.......

I guess people past a certain age simply can't grasp the concept of political correctness.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

No one of any age has been able to justify political correctness except in terms of smearing those one disagrees with or shutting down freedom of speech.

There was nothing racist in Buttars' remark.

We need more people who can go the whole day without thinking about skin color. You're obviously not one of them.

I'm not a fan of Mr. Buttars. He seems wedded to two political benefactors: the Eagle Forum and radiologist/developer Wendell Gibby. Buttars has put forth a bill that would make it illegal for hospitals with over 25 percent of the beds in a county to offer discount rates to insurance companies. According to the Salt Lake Tribune:

Radiologist Wendell Gibby, who owns a state-of-the-art medical imaging center and competes with hospitals for those services, is pushing the bill, which would help his competitive standing against larger hospitals. He, of course, could offer a discount.

Buttars also recently lost his position as chairman of the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee because he sent a letter to a judge complaining about a ruling against, once again, Wendell Gibby.

Oh, I don't think he is prejudiced against any particular skin color. He's just well ... a little dumb, shall we say.

I'm prejudiced against somebody who looks like...Chris Buttars.
