The pairing of Cumorah/Moroni and Comoros/Moroni is also, likely, a coincidence.

cdowis wrote:As discussed elsewhere, I do not believe this is a coincidence at all. Madagascar was inhabited by Arabs, and the 1 and 2 Nephi in the Book of Mormon is full of Arabic culture, as noted by Nibley.

Nope, no coincidence here. Those names, like the Egyptian names in the Book of Mormon, come from the early history of Nephi and Lehi when they left Jerusalem. Somehow they are tied together such that father and son have those names linked together.

It is just a matter of time when we will find the source of these names and perhaps link it to the Arabic culture of Lehi.

We've had some great parodies on this board, but you just can't make this stuff up.

A matter of time...Yeaaaah. OK.

Some insects called the human race
Lost in time

Wouldn't it make more sense for this to be the promised land? It's a nice boat ride from the Red Sea, but not too far. There are actual names that match the Book of Mormon. Combine Moroni, Comoros with the NHM evidence and the Book of Mormon is basically proven. The only question is how did Moroni end up burying the plates in New York? Well, according to the apologists he had 30 years or so to walk from Mesoamerica to New York. It's not that much more of a stretch to have him sail from Moroni, Comoros to New york state. After all, he had 30 years.

Wow, that God is quite a translator. He inspires Joseph Smith to say "horse" instead of "unusual trained tapir", to say "steel swords" instead of "obsidian studded club", but when it comes to grain... no way. God's gotta draw the line somewhere. Back to tight translation, and the actual Nephite word. It must have been one of those that God spelled out on the stone, kind of like an old-timey oujia board.

Internet connection: 20 dollars

Computer: 800 dollars

Watching Cdowis' arrogant, pretentious condescension: priceless

by the way, did I ever tell you all how many times I've seen - and participated in - corrections of cdowis' claim that Mesoamerican geography precluded the use of the horse as transportation? Only to see him repeat the same lame claim time after time after time.....

Heh. I just saw this over there, and then your comment here made my day complete. Charles makes perhaps the most absurd stretch in the history of Mormon apologetics, and you turn and call those who point it out intellectually vacuous. Chris is right: you can't make this stuff up.

Not only can you not make this stuff up, but when first confronted with it, you can't even believe they're serious.
