"I am a mainstream Mormon. Thomas S. Monson is the president of my church, headquartered in Salt Lake City. Yet I am a polygamist with the blessing of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
I wonder if the word is going to get out to mainstream media that indeed the LDS church DOES practice polygamy, that men can and some are sealed to multiple women living on the earth, that polygamy is believed an eternal doctrine by members of the LDS church.
It will be interesting to see what happens as the whole FLDS thing unfolds.

My now divorced parents are still sealed, as is my father to my step-mother. With all the bickering they'll be doing in the hereafter, I'm thinking of getting a nice, quiet apartment in the terrestrial kingdom. That is, if I make it that high up on the heavenly ladder:-)

I like this bit:
My second wife has asked the church to cancel my first wife's marriage to me, but they say it isn't necessary because my first wife needs the blessings of a husband. They say I can have two wives. My second wife asked why her marriage to her first husband was canceled by the church but mine wasn't. She was told that only men can have more than one spouse in the church. In heaven I will have two wives; maybe more if I am worthy. Mormon men know they will have more than one wife in the celestial kingdom. It's doctrinal.
Um .... don't they 'abhor polygamy' or something? But there you go ...

Very good point Chap. Yet Mormon men are baffled why women feel subjugated below men.
- Men get as many women as they like
- Women cannot live with god, REGARDLESS of the life they lived, unless they are seal to A man.
- Men are the ones who have the "power" to heal, not women
- Men will be a God
ROFL. Just read this one-liner in one of the comments to one of the articles on the Trib's website.
Polygamy gets you screwed in more ways than one.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

What is amazing is that virtually nobody is speaking in defence of the CoJCoLDS in the comments (6 pages so far) to the article cited, despite the fact that several of the comments seem to come from LDS.

What would they say? The CoJCoLDS seems to be wanting to create the PR impression that it's got nothing to do with polygamy anymore, but the facts of the theology and practice say otherwise. Are faithful LDS going to chime and try to justify polygamy by reference to the Old Testament or something? That would contradict what their fearless leaders seem to be trying to accomplish. I think LDS are stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. LDS still very much believe in polygamy. There's really nothing to argue about.
