Dancing show on FOX: Strip clubs in SLC?

Post by _The Dude »

Somebody else must have watched "So You Think You Can Dance" last night. Right now they are in the phase where they travel around the country and people try-out for the contest. Last night they showed auditions from Utah, and it really confirmed something about Mormons: they are a peculiar people!

Babies, babies, babies. How many babies do young Mormon mothers have, on average? And who is going to watch them when mommy goes to Las Vegas for the dance competition? That's what the judges wanted to know. One lady bounced around the stage in her sweats and a baggy t-shirt, looking more fit to do housework than compete at dance. All she needed was a vacuum to complete her act. It was hysterical. She had four babies and declared herself the best mother in the world. The judges told her thanks, but no thanks.

Lots of 20-something competitors claimed to earn a living as "financial advisors". A mighty dubious Utah profession, if you ask me.

Lots of hot girls in the 18-29 range, some recently divorced, some obviously anxious to move to another state ASAP. Dang, Utah has at least this one thing going for it, I sometimes forget. The second half of the show was auditions in Dallas, and it just wasn't the same in Texas, I'm afraid.

There was one lanky guy with tattoos and facial piercings who said he worked as a DJ in a strip club. I was in disbelief. Strip clubs in SLC? No way! He must have driven in from Denver or something. Later, they showed a scene of him at work in SLC, and some of the ladies dancing, and it was more of an underwear show than a "strip" anything. Maybe just because it was prime time television, I don't know. He made it to Vegas with his unique dance style that was more like flowing water than anything I've seen before. Cool.

Did anyone else see this show? It highlighted the peculiarity of Utah folks.

Actually I had a good chuckle this week. I was taking my team to chinese buffet in Bountiful and we passed the "Northern Exposure" strip club. It said "Today's lotter numbers are: 36 24 36".

When I was in SLC for the ex-Mormon conference there was a club down the street from our hotel that featured Stripaoke. Whatever that is.

I'm watching it right now. Tonight they're in Charleston, SC, which isn't nearly as interesting as Utah. I would turn it off except for the wife....

Oh wait - are there hot chicks on that show?

Yeah, man. Several from Pleasant Grove, where I went to HS.... 'course some of the biggest losers were from there too. Go figure.

Edit: fixed spelling of "loser" so Will Schryver doesn't have a cow.

Likely story.

I saw the show, and have to admit that this is probably our favorite show on TV (well its a toss up between this and The Amazing Race) (oh, and I love Battlestar Galactica). Everyone needs to watch this because this guy just rocks. He probably won't make it through the next round where they have to perform in other styles, but this guy can move:

They did make Utah look a little wierd, but that was to be expected. They mentioned how a ton of contestants were married with kids. (one guy they featured couldn't even remember all his kids names (he had like 6 or 7)) and he kept trying but forgetting some. They then featured a stay at home mom with 4 kids who was certainly NOT a dancer. She was nice, but I was embarassed for her, but the judges were polite. The guy who worked at a strip club was definitely from SLC and yes, there are strip clubs there. I've never been of course, but I had heard about them even when I was back at BYU in the mid-late 1990's. I have to second the fact that SLC had some HOT chicks, especially the two blond best friends that just happened to get divorced at the same time. It didn't say if they were Mormon or not, but I could tell by they way they talked. The Utah accent dies when you leave the church.

Back in the early 1980's there was a great strip club in downtown salt lake called the The Joker. And there was one more outside of town that was more of a dive. But the Joker Lounge was a good place. I still remember watching a chick take it off to Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye. But I was young and impressionable.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

A few questions.

Whyme: Did you tip her? I certainly hope so.

To all LDS and ex-LDS: Do you think there is a genetic component to why you all seem to find LDS and ex-LDS women from the Utah area incredibly attractive? There is some research into genetic attraction. Do you think there is something about the inbreeding that makes those from the Utah area more attracted to the women from that area?
