I'm wondering when the earliest Genealogy Societies, Groups, Clubs and or Organizations were formed on the planet.
Yesterday in church we were given a faith-promoting testimony that prior to 1844-45, some 9 years(ish) after the 1836 so-calledTM visit wherein Elijah restored the sealing power and turned the hearts of the fathers to the children etc., there were no genealogy organizations in existence anywhere on earth.
I'm sure when I was a teenager (a bazillion years ago) I'd read somewhere that there were genealogy societies and or organizations in the early 1820's in the USA...maybe though my memory is faulty.
Anyone here know if any genealogy societies, organizations, clubs or groups existed prior to the 1844-1845 time period...anywhere on the planet?
Thanks.

The Jews kept their genealogy alive via the begats in the Old Testament. Surely they qualify as a group.
I think you've been a victim of someone's wishful thinking. I thought correlation was supposed to eliminate that sort of expounding of incorrect information?

Wikipedia:
The Almanach de Gotha, was a respected directory of Europe's highest nobility and royalty. First published in 1763 at the ducal court of Frederick III, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, it was regarded as an authority in the classification of monarchies, ducal houses, families of former rulers, and royalty.

I've heard that before but the version I heard was that there were none in the United States before that time. I'm not sure if that one is true either.
