LDS Inc thumbs its selfrighteous nose at other flooded areas

Post by _Boaz & Lidia »

In a previous thread that I started to reveal the true intentions behind PR stunts from LDS Inc, I passed over this very revealing gem:
Over 130 missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are saying thank-you to the people of Quincy, Illinois, by filling sandbags to protect the city that once protected Mormon pioneers.
So then, too bad all of the other areas, many of which are in much more need than Quincy, too bad these other flooded areas did not help the early Mormons.

Otherwise, this organization(as DCP put it) would send their 130 sandbaggers to an area that was in the most need.

Wow.

That is really being "Christ like"! "We only help those who have helped US".

You have to understand that only a couple of places (Hong Kong, and Quincy, Illinois) have received the yellow t-shirts and vests yet.

Give it time. As the yellow uniforms start reaching other areas, you'll see missionaries and LDS youth called out to help those people too. ;-)
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Are there other folks helping in the same location as LDS? The reason that I ask is because the Tshirts could also be to identify team members and boost morale. I still don't see anything particularly wrong with photo ops.

I just don't.

A family member of mine just a few days ago, drove through flood waters in an 18 wheeler in Indiana. I would be most glad for anyone to have helped in that area to make the way safe whether they wore Tshirts, were naked, were affiliated with a church or not, or had their picture taken while doing it.

I guess I just don't see it the way some of you guys do.

Ok, I guess this is my underlying complaint here. Did the church, who wants us all to believe that they spend TONS of money on charity, spend one dime on these flood efforts? (Aside from the PR tee-shirts)

Did they offer to fly volunteers to the flooded areas? Offer to pay for sand or bags? Offer to pay non-Members to come help? Offer to bus the missionaries to somewhere they may be needed more? Anything?

Or did they simply say, "Hey, we already got the Missionaries out there paying their own way. Lets send them to the flood zones and have them wear some LDS tee shirts. For next to nothing, we could make ourselves look REEEEALLY good!"

Oh Scottie are you crazy! What else is charity work for than getting cheap PR and some good image boosters. [/sarcasm]

The moment the church does real charity work when they don't realize they can get on tv or in the papers for it is the moment that they actually deserve a piece of respect. (any bets on when that'll happen?)

by the way, I'd just like to point out that there is a difference between the church and the members.

The members that I have know are very charitable people, and most of them do it willingly without seeking any kind of recognition for what they do.

The church, on the other hand, shamelessly prostitutes itself as a charitable behemoth. Members pay tithing because they believe a large portion of this is going to humanitarian aid.

Of course, we'll never know if this is the case or not, but I'm highly skeptical that much money is being spent on this kind of stuff.
