LDS have the all time record of abuse and persecution.

Post by _neworder »

It seems that many Mormons suffer from the persecution complex. Here is a quote from jadams_4040 on the the MAD board.

Billy Graham is correct in a lot of spiritual things, he just simply does not have the complete knowledge as to the last days before christs coming, he is correct in and of previous dispensations. but not of the truths revealed for all mankind to guide us today. {and that is sad}. as far as being protested and picketed. yes all chtristians get this to certain extent, but this church {we l.d.s} have the all time record of abuse and persecution,hatred,e.t.c....The advesary gos after all whom worship God, but he really puts in much overtime on us because we are his worst nightmare.

I will agree that the LDS Church is persecuted like all religions are at times but having the "all time record" I think not. There have been many other religions that have been persecuted more than the LDS Church.

I remember being in the MTC and being told that we were the #1 targets by Satan. This kind of freaked me out because I honestly believed this and just knew that my name was now higher on the Hit List because I was now a full time missionary. Of course we where told that we have a weapon to keep Lucifer at bay and this weapon was the first law in heaven. Obedience. As long as we did exactly what we were told and expected to do, Satan would not have power over us. I still believed in a lot of magical thinking then so you can better believe it that I tried to be the most Obedient missionary that I could.

Through out the mission when people would "persecute" us, it just made my testimony stronger that I was part of the one and only true Church. Now I realize that this happens to pretty much everybody who believes strongly in their religion. I have been attending a Bible church for the past few years and I see the same thing with them. They are even a little more so than the LDS and almost anything that seems to be bad from dropping a suitcase on ones toe to getting a red light seems to be from Satan.[/b]

So true. Jadams is one of the more child-like posters on MADB. He/she will probably never figure out how babies are really made, either, but we are taught that Jesus would like everyone to be so innocent.

I'm pretty sure Judaism is the most persecuted religion. They were dragged away into slavery by the Babylonians SIX CENTURIES before Christ. And then there were the Romans...and the Moors...and a long history of persecution in Medieval Europe before the Pogroms and the "Protocols of Zion" nonsense under Stalin and of course all that happened during the reign of Hitler.

How old is the Mormon church...? Not quite two hundred years old...?

Jadams, educate yourself before making statements of such arrant tosh.

I think the Spaghetti Monster worshippers dispute that title.

I think the LDS might be able to claim that title IF they include all the antedileuvian believers, the followers of Shem and the Patriarchs, Judaism until the First Century, Christianity for a Century or two after that, and then the LDS Church.

The Jews still got 'em beat. No one beats the Hebrews when it comes to being the most historically persecuted group of people ever. Early Christians in the Roman Empire pre-Constantine probably come in second.

I don't know if they should claim that unless six million of their members have been gassed to death under the reign of a madman.

Claiming more persecution than the Jews effectively diminishes all that the Jews have suffered.

Which is, of course, the point. If the Jews were the most persecuted ever, that would mean that God loved them best. And we Mormons can't ever be content with second best. We have to win the God Loves Us Best contest, or there's no use in living.

And to make amends the Romans co-opted the Christians and taught them the subtle art of persecution.
