See link below for full article in LA Times. An Aug. 27th poll showed that passage Prop 8 was down 54% to 40% among likely voters. Admittedly, the poll is a bit old, but go CA!!!

Prop 8 far down in poll ....
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

Re: Prop 8 far down in poll ....
I'm actually wondering about how this will turn out. If California votes down prop 8, after all the hoopla and direction from on high, and bishops asking wealthy members for huge donations, etc., what will happen next? If prop 8 is defeated, will Mormons be somewhat demoralized about the impotence of their God-backed righteous efforts, perhaps leading some to question the leadership, or will the victim/siege mentality kick in and convince some members that "the world" really is fighting against them?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

They will just see it as a sign of the times. Most Mormons have a very fatalistic view of mankind's future before the Elders save the world.

Well, if it was me, I'd be PO'd that I'd been advised to back a losing horse... and I'd be doubly PO'd that I'd been arm-twisted into putting my money into backing said horse. And further, I'd wonder why the church, with its incredibly deep pockets, didn't see fit to put their money (you know... the profits from the for-profit businesses) into backing said horse.
Rich Mormons are like rich people everywhere. They got rich by making the choices necessary to get rich... and that means not throwing money away on losing horses.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Harmony, I hope you're not suggesting that in this case backing the winning horse would have made people rich. I don't think most people who contributed will consider it throwing their money away. As an analogy, I don't think demanding Jesus's release while everyone else was calling for Barrabus would mean that your voice doesn't matter. At least you spoke up.
On this issue I currently feel something along the lines of: "The warning has been given. Their fate is now their own."

Wonder if a commercial featuring,, a certain "intellectual reserve" in Salt Lake City, working on ways to influence the California election, could help any?
