Missing Stuff: Biblical, Book of Mormon and Both

Post by _Jersey Girl »

I'm sure you're all familiar with the response to missing stuff such as the Gold Plates or artifactual (is that a word?) evidence for the existence of Jesus, that I'm thinking about.

Gold Plates, Shroud of Turin, marked grave of Jesus, Noah's Ark and other such things. It goes something like this:

God wouldn't allow these things to be found because He wants us to have faith in him, not faith in proof.

Or

God wouldn't allow these things to be found because we would worship these objects instead of Him.

How does that make sense to the Christian believer?

If one believes that God sent his Son to walk this earth, to teach, to be his Word, and act as the ULTIMATE object lesson that showed us that not only does eternity exist, that He exists and that WE can be a part of that and inspired ancient scribes to record their accounts...

Why exclude the above mentioned artifacts as proof?

According to the Biblical account, when Thomas was unsure about the resurrected Jesus, Jesus himself extended his hand as proof.

Why not now?

And when I get to heaven (obviously, I'm joking), I'll ask Jesus, "why did Thomas get a free pass?"

The Israelites had the Sea parted for them and passed through it, then followed a pillar of fire, and had mana from heaven to eat, and water brought forth from a roack, and those sad bastards were only saved from the wrath of God by way of Moses pleading. The Melchizedek Priesthood was taken from them and was not brought back again until the time of Christ.

As opposed to this The Brother of Jared lived by faith until the veil had no more effect and he was able to see the Savior with his own eyes. This was accomplished without signs, but by living in faith and obedience.

Ill stick with the promptings of the Holy Ghost and the testimony of the Lords servants. It has a more powerful effect on the changing of a mans heart.

As Joseph Campbell said: "Follow your bliss."

That is fundamentally impossible though. My bliss IS historical reality. It is happening to ME, in TIME, and at some PLACE, as it occurs. For me it is historical reality. It is an event or thing that happened or happens to me as I am alive here on earth. How can it NOT be historical reality?

I'm glad to know that I shall, in the end, that no matter what I believe, have a place among the righteous and faithful of all generations. True to what I believed.

Either that or you'll be mere soil content. You'll know when you know or you won't know anything at all.

I'm good with that.
