Who are they dealin with for the $2billion?

Post by _squawkeye »

This from the Mormon Curtain site. Raises some interesting questions on whether LDS, Inc learned anything after dealing with Kashogo(sp?) and the like in the past. Interesting article on how much money the project costs and who the leadership is dealing with.
---------------------

"The project's cost (of reportedly over US$2 billion, excluding the planned City Creek condominium tower) raises questions of whether this isn't a money laundering operation. For comparison, world's tallest completed building by roof the Shanghai World Financial Center's construction was valued at US$ 1.2 billion for 377,300 m2. The 818 m (2,684 ft) tall Burj Dubai project has an estimated cost of US$ 4 billion for 334,000 m2, against the 81,000 m2 of the mall (3 story high in most of it's elevation). Another comparison, The Time Warner Center in New York (where property values are considerably higher, than the Salt Lake downtown area) was estimated to have a market value of US$1.1 billion in 2006[7], for it's 260,000 m² (2.8 million ft²)."

Sqwakeye, this is a very important post, one of the most important posts ever on this board, in fact. The price really hadn't registered for me until reading your post, I hope everyone reads it.

If wiki is right, the LDS mall will be the 12th most expensive structure the human race has ever built. Yes, the Large Hadron collider and the mir station were more expensive. The only man-made objects in the united states more expensive than Hincklebee's mall are the B2 bomber, seawolf submarine, a water treatment facility, and that tunnel system in Massachussettes. It will be the most expensive building ever built in the united states. The Freedom Tower will cost about the same, and that's in New York with union/mob wages and everything else.

This is an outrage. Something very immoral is going on or the church's incompetance has been demonstrated on earthshattering proportions.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Wow! Gadianton is absolutely right: this is mind-blowing. I know that the downtown SLC mall was the subject of one of the longest threads in ZLMB history, which suggests to me that the apologists don't know quite how to spin this one. What do DCP and others say about the exorbitant, bloated costs of this endeavor? It seems to me that it is literally impossible that some kind of graft didn't occur during the building of this.

I wonder where the numbers are coming from since the Corp of the presiding bish does not publish financial statements.

Why is this an outrage? Why is it immoral? What specifically is incompetent?

Even assuming the numbers you are all throwing around are accurate, which is dubious at best, this does not mean it is immoral or an outrage. You and I may think the LDS Church ought to spend their money on something else but guess what? It is not your decision nor mine. And just because we thing it ought to be spent on something else does not mean something immoral or underhanded is going on.

Of course! And you need no proof whatsoever to slander and libel those you disdain. All you need is innuendo.

More harassment and ad hominem attack from Jason Bourne. Are you capable of participating on a thread with me without devolving into these kinds of attacks, man?

On my 10th HS reunion I actually talked to the husband of a girl i graduated with. He is one of the managing GC's for the project, unsurprisingly the church's main GC for most projects (a.k.a. the first point of siphoning and private, cooked books).

I commented on the overblown budget numbers and he agreed with me that the overruns are exorbitantly high.

So there is your answer Jason, straight from the mouth of the GC.

On a side note, you could tell that even though he was surprised at the budget he swatted it off because it was (his words) "an inspired venture". I about puked up my seven and seven.

So respond to this Jason. Are you not in the Construction Trade business?

There was not one ad hominem attack. I simply describe what you do. Live with it or change it. I will continue to hold your feet to the fire on this so at least some can see that not everyone here buys your nonesense.

Oh stop whining. I posted some substantive stuff here. Deal with it or shut up.

Can you name the company? Did he tell you there are cooked books on this project?

I commented on the overblown budget numbers and he agreed with me that the overruns are exorbitantly high.

Did he give you numbers? Does he have access to the entire budget?

On a side note, you could tell that even though he was surprised at the budget he swatted it off because it was (his words) "an inspired venture". I about puked up my seven and seven.

Ok

So respond to this Jason.

I just did.

Are you not in the Construction Trade business?
