We're Bleeding and I Think it's Menstrual

Post by _GoodK »

From a particularly drossy thread,
We're bleeding and I think it's Terminal.

harmony wrote:I've posted here through thick and thin, so I think I have some authority to speak.

We're bleeding and I fear it may be terminal. People are disappearing, some of them without saying goodbye.

I'm tired of all the threads about Prop 8. I'm tired of all the threads about gays. I'm tired of all the personal threads about Daniel.

And if we can't come up with some threads that have nothing to do with gays, nothing to do with Prop 8, nothing to do with personal attacks on Daniel, I'm liable to be one of those who just disappears.

C'mon, people. We can do better than this.

I didn't know what to make of this swill at first. Was this harmony's version of an "exit story"? Just who were these posters that were disappearing, fading like candles in the wind?

Mister Scratch, in regular fashion, calls our subject out for her sophistry.

Mister Scratch wrote:In all honesty, I am sort of stunned to see a post like this from Harmony, of all people. Where is her evidence? Or, is this just a personal demand? ... I see that Harmony's last thread was about face cards. Is this the direction in which she'd like to see the board heading?

Ostensibly, harmony is simply trying to save the board we all love. But is that the real reason for her seemingly embroidered opening post? She responds to Mister Scratch's inquiry with a list - which I will refer to as "Harmony's Hostages" hereafter.

Where are all these posters? These people added meat to our discussions. They added knowledge and now we are less, because they are not here. They may lurk, they may occasionally post, for the most part, they are not here.

Two more have now dusted us off. Will anyone but me even notice who they are and when they left?

What other evidence is needed, Scratch?

As if The Dude abided in my head, he piped up with:

The Dude wrote:Gee, I'm surprised I'm not on the list as well, since I take a day off from time to time. It must be a fluke.

Lots of these people are still around and have made recent posts. Blixa posted in this very thread shortly before this list of "losers".

Perhaps feeling a bit contrite after her hastily assembled list of hostages went over like a lead balloon, harmony decides to shift the attention from the facts to the spirit of her "message."

harmony wrote:None of you addressed the message. None of you asked why I posted this. None of you got past your kneejerk reaction. Instead, you gloated, you dismissed, you marginalized, you trivialized... anything so you didn't have to focus on what is right in front of you. You attacked the messenger, not the message. If you can't see how that makes you and this board exactly like the church, then you're as blind as the FP.

Welcome to Zion: Shades' Board. The irony drips, even without smilies.

Three more are gone.

Harmony is noticeably perturbed now, and now she claims that three more have left to join her hostages. That is five individual people gone by her account, although she doesn't quite explicate beyond that.

Have the five hostages been mentioned on her initial list of internees? Is she inflating the numbers?

Her posts become much more wobbly and rash as not even one hostage musters enough courage to speak for themselves on this, all the while harmony's real ambitions start to surface.

harmony wrote:
Was that the original intended purpose of the ignore feature... to shield our resident moron from the consequences of his words?
...
Good to know. And you wonder why people beat feet, however quietly.
...
why would anyone likie Blixa want to post here?
...
Obviously I am both stupid and naïve.
...

Punishing a poster she dislikes seems to be at the root of all this, given that particular post. Ironically, the lovely Blixia chimes in:

Blixia wrote:Heh. The biggest problem I have with posting here is That I Currently Do Not Have Time.

Like a beacon of truth, Mister Scratch adds:

Mister Scratch wrote:No, I get it, Harmony: you want "your" board to feel like it did "back in the day." But times change. Change with the times or let the times change you.

As a result of this standoff Dr. Shades decided to entertain harmony's threats and appease her, and in turn her alleged horde of hostages, with the title of Moderator. Is MDB better for it? Have any of the hostages thanked harmony for restoring order to a terminally-ill message board? It certainly doesn't seem so. So what was this? A glorified temper-tantrum? A BF? The thread seemed particularly one-sided before it was derailed into oblivion, so I have to ask, have we been had? Am I the only one who feels like harmony pulled one over on us?

I've pointed this out in passing a couple of times, and both times harmony - apparently not aware of the irony therein - tosses out non sequitur voting slogans like, "Every vote counts" or Vote or Die.

I feel like we can do better than having our discussions dictated to us by a moody lady with a bogus list of hostages. That is all.

I haven't noticed anything different. I still get obscene sexual PMs from certain posters who are female (at least I hope they are). LOL

Meh, I just hope Dr. Shades didn't loose too much sleep over the tantrum.

Happy New Year  !

You'll get your chance, GoodK. One man, one vote.

And to be more accurate, your title should be: We're Bleeding and I think it's Menopausal.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

[insert generic voting cliché here]

So I'll take the lack of a serious response as a confirmation of my assumptions -- we have all been had by harmony's bogus list of hostages.

That which you can change, change. That which you cannot, gripe and complain ad nauseum.

Shades didn't have to make any changes to the board. However, he saw something (perhaps those who voted with their feet?) that caused him to give another angle a try for a month.

So... when the time is up and Shades invites comments, you'll get your chance to comment (and gripe and complain ad nauseum). And so will I.

I'd really love to stick around and spend my New Year's Eve with you, but I've got a party to go to. Good food, good friends, and good fun await me, so your complaint will fall on someone else's eyes/ears. I'm off to par-tee!

So in other words, yes, you did assemble a phony list of people who supported your cause in order to hijack this board.

Glad we can be honest about that, finally.

GoodK,

What is your main complaint here? Can/will you sum it up in one sentence?

Fix this:
From a particularly drossy thread,
We're bleeding and I think it's Internal.

If you're going to reference an existing thread, get the title right.

And briefly state how you think that happened.
