Proof LDS leaders read this board!

Post by _truth dancer »

OK, I'm just kidding but...

Did we or did we not just recently have a discussion about food storage and what would be better than the "two year supply" advice we have heard for a hundred years?

Did we or did we not discuss how often food storage is unusable in a disaster?

Did we or did we not discuss how it would be better to have a small supply of food and save more money for a rainy day?

Did we or did we not discuss a lack of revelation out of SLC?

And, did anyone read the current Ensign where the new food storage counsel is given?

1. Have a three month supply of food you typically use.
2. Store water
3. Save money
4. Build up extra food if possible

Good job! New advice that is worthwhile and valuable!

I actually liked a few articles in the Ensign this month. It seems the church is recognizing the need to include those with disabilities, and has created a section on their website. WAY TO GO LDS CHURCH!

Another thing that struck me is all the full page pictures. Hmmm a new look or something. About half the magazine was pictures.

I recall a survey a few months ago on LDS org asking for imput on how members would like to improve the Ensign, maybe more and bigger pictures was one of things people wanted.

Or it could simply be that some conventional wisdom has crept, unbidden and uncovered, into the minds of our leaders. It's not like there's no precedence for that.

From decades of "two year's supply" to a few years of "72 hour kits" to this reminds me of the process of natural evolution (prophecy notwithstanding).
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Well TD this is not new news. The church has had this focus for quite some time. The idea has been this pattern is easier for most members to get started on really does make more sense. Getting 3 month of what you normally eat is not hard if you just start buying a few extras each time you shop then replace as you go. The years supply of basics can follow later. Really most will only need about a three month supply or less ever.

Hey Harmony... I was just kidding! I know this is all common knowledge regarding what is good preparation. I just thought it was funny that a few weeks after having the discussion here, we see an article about it in the Ensign. :-)

Hi Jason, you obviously have not read your current Ensign because THEY promote it as NEW. :-) Best get reading!

Wasn't the recommendation, during the bomb shelter era, for a food supply with a half-life of 125,000 years?

It has been on the Provident living web page for one or two years.

I wonder how many hits the provident living web page gets.

So Jason, are you saying that the church misrepresented itself in the Ensign?

Or maybe as Harmony suggests, it is new to the 99.999999% of LDS members who haven't read the provident living link on their website?

Just to be clear I am kidding around with y'all.

The funniest thing in that article is the solution for people without much space. It acknowledges the problem that many live in a way that would preclude storing a year's worth of food. The solution? Just add to your storage little by little. This is a Church answer through and through. Give a solution that does not solve the problem. Don't have enough money to pay tithing? Pay it first. Marital problems? Read you scriptures.

Getting you food storage in small increments does not solve the storage problem, it only postpones it.
