I think it's nothing short of a desire to appear intellectually superior when infact, it comes across as nothing more than pretentious. I agree that there are many here who are well educated, articulate and who don't feel the need to write at a higher level than that which is necessary. In the years that I've posted online (which is far too many!) I've come to realize that on any board such as this, there are people from all walks of life and various levels of education. Professionally, I write narrative but don't feel at all compelled to write at that level here where the strength of discussion relies on a conversational type of communication.

I'm not impressed by the overuse of extensive vocabulary. It makes the writer appear insecure. A good example of a secure writer on this board is Some Schmo. He is highly intelligent but doesn't feel the need to write overblown posts in order to prove himself. Every once in a while, his ability to write so precisely and articulately catches me off guard and I realize that the guy I'm reading really isn't some schmo!
