Sort of. Why the hell didn't the eagles just fly Frodo and Sam to Mt. Doom to drop the ring in, as they were plenty able to pick them up at Mt. Doom and take them home? (Or did this just happen in the movie and not in the book? It's been 30 years since I read the book.)

The generally accepted explanation is that before Sauron was beaten the Eye of Sauron would have seen them coming as soon as they entered his lands and the Nazgul would have stopped them. Once Sauron was dead the Nazgul fell and the Eye was gone.

I lament those who hear things that I never said and who could not rationally interpret me to have suggested anything of the sort--like what you just wrote.

Those with ears to hear, actually hear and correctly comprehend what is said. Those without ears to hear, put words into other people's mouths (God's as well as mine).

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

I never said you said it. I was using it as an example of how confusing "God's word" is. Every religious zealout thinks that they have eyes and ears whereas the rest of the world is blind. Doesn't the righteous terrorist who believes he is doing God's work hear and see, "Go blow yourself up for my glory"??

Not to confuse those looking for the answers. They pray to God and use the Holy Ghost. However, those opposed to him and who have rejected him....I don't see any harm done in confusing them....might keep them out of trouble.

Nehor - at one point, even apostates were once believers who prayed to God and used the Holy Ghost - and got confused.

It's amazing that you still don't appear to grasp that.

Miss Taken wrote:Nehor, thanks for your response. So what happens if, say someone gets called as a primary president, and the leadership are at pains to indicate that this calling has come through much prayer and revelation in terms of God's will. Yet the person who has been asked, genuinely, is being told through personal revelation, that, no, they should not except this calling at the present time.

One is right, the other is wrong. The power is in the hands of the person called who can refuse the calling.

Who is genuinely receiving God's will through the Holy Ghost?

Whoever is.

As for whether I have ever asked on specific issues. Yes. Absolutely. Did I get answers..No. I did not.

Then maybe God wants you to think it over more, pray more, develop more faith, etc.

Paradoxically, when my father died, I had some very deep spiritual experiences which I didn't even have to ask for. Wow.. that was an incredible lesson for me. All those years of asking, and nothing....and here as an inactive, apostate sinner, I was feeling peace, love, acceptance and all that, without even having to ask...

The condescension of God baffles me too.

And what about those who pray and are told to fly an airplane into a building, or blow up a subway? Do you think maybe God should confound them?

Confused about what? The will of God? Please.......

Most of those who claim this kind of thing say they got no answer at all. That's not confusing. That's just the way it works. God is under no obligation to explain everything you want to you.

Umm, actually He is.

What is the scripture about God cannot lie or He will cease to be God.

And God has PROMISED that whatsoever we ask in faith shall be revealed to us.

Wait - do the prophets whom God does not help discern the difference between their own opinions and the mind and will of God know that God is doing this in order to confuse those who can't handle the truth?

Or can prophets not handle this particular truth?

But members apparently are not subject to this affect - ie, being used by God in order to confuse people for their own good - because when they pray to know if the prophet was speaking for the Lord or just sharing his own opinion, God will clearly tell them.

So it actually appears that the calling of prophet causes a deterioration in the ability to discern what God is really saying. Perhaps they should be warned about that in the fine print.

If you're trying to convince me that the Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups get down on their knees and pray about whether they should blow up a building or bomb a subway then I don't buy it.

Does God speak to you in an audible voice?

Why, if you are not able to believe apostates were confused about the will of God, are you so eager to believe God is content to allow prophets to be confused about the will of God, in order to confuse people who can't handle the truth?
