I'd love to see him debate John Larson on this topic or Doctor Scratch. He's got nothing. He's just a weak figurehead who practiced a talk a million times in front of a mirror, getting down all the little pauses, volume changes, inflections, and gestures. Then he delivered his speech in a very protected environment...
Gad's no doubt.
He seemed like he was quite worked up. Even a little flustered and desperate to hold his own and make a point. Its as if he is privy to some relic/discovery that could just really kill the Mormon deal.
I'd be interested to know who and what it was that got under his skin.
He kind of used screamy logic. Like he was down to this one thing and know one was going to interupt his argument. Joe Jr. couldn't be a "Charlotten" because Hyrum read Ether before the shootout. "..And he folded the page in this very book here, seeee?.." (as the videographer demonstrates how a page can be folded by a prophet before he dies).
As an aside, it is kind of amusing that the MAD folks actually seem a little afraid to come over here and discuss. We would all be over there discussing if we could, but they won't let us. We beg them to come over here to discuss and they say they don't like the "ambience." I totally don't get it. When I was a fired up TBM, I would have been bored to tears over there. I mean seriously, have you read some of the comments. Totally clueless. I would've been over here having it out with John Larsen in a heartbeat.
There's another explanation. If Joseph Smith were not the author of the Book of Mormon, but still believed it was an inspired product, he could have found spiritual comfort therein. Also, if he were the author of the Book of Mormon, but happened to be a narcissist, he would've course find comfort in his own wise words.
It's telling that this is the sort of argument apologists and believers are forced to construct.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
I listened to Holland's talk and he was pretty bold almost to the point of being angry.
He made it sound like the reason why they were guarding him is because of the Book of Mormon and if he only confessed it was a lie, they would let him walk out the front door.
A lot of LDS do not know that it was because of other issues like polygamy and having the press destroyed that people were out to get him. Even if he confessed the Book of Mormon was not true, I don't think that would have stopped the Mob or changed the minds of the guards since that was not the main reason why they were holding him and out to get him.
I am sure he felt his life was threatened which was the reason why he had a gun, but confessing that the Book of Mormon was not true would have added more fuel to the fire. Admitting the Book of Mormon was not what he claimed it to be, it would just added one more reason why people were out to get him.
I have loved Elder Holland since I heard a talk he gave at BYU in 1989. It was a powerful talk, filled with great doctrine. It was a cassette that got passed around among the missionaries, and we all were blessed in the hearing of it.
I don't always listen to all of conference, but I do always seek out Elder Hollands talks. He has the spiritual gifts of being a great teacher and in having a powerful testimony. This talk to me is just another great notch in a history of giving powerful talks.

Fascinating, since The Nehor has even achieved this.
Wow, why hasn't anyone ever told me I've seen Jesus in the flesh like other Prophets? I'd really like to be kept up to date on these things.
"Surely he knows that DCP, The Nehor, Lamanite, and other key apologists..." -Scratch clarifying my status in apologetics "I admit it; I'm a petty, petty man." -Some Schmo
I just love being lectured to by the Catholic with the Joseph Smith avatar.
The poster who can't or won't live Mormonism but will defend it beyond all reason and logic. You are right up there with the oddest ducks I ever encountered in my life. Why Me, I ask Why You?

Elder Holland's words stand by themselves. I do not need to defend them from your frankly pathetic efforts to crawl over, them, around them or under them.
Elder Holland is an angel?
