Meeting with SP

Hey Zeez -

I'm in a very similar predicament with a wife wanting to do anything to reconcile nagging doubts, and me, ready to speak my mind, follow where the truth leads, and not intimidated or impressed by church authority at all. I don't think you can both "win" in the meeting. Either 1) your wife is soothed by the SP's comments, which means you sitting there biting your tongue in half, or 2) you speak your mind, get into the debate, which will most likely intellectually stimulate you but really does a number on your wife. I guess one other outcome could be your wife actually coming around and considering your viewpoint valid, though only you how likely that would be.

It surely would be an interesting and exciting meeting though, so I might just go anyway and see what happens were I in your shoes. But then again, I know my my wife has enough pressure and stress with just everyday life and kids, and I wouldn't be a good DH were I to cause her more angst just so I could mix it up with an SP.

In that case I will be careful what I say as well. What happens if someone just has questions and just wants some answers how could you get in church trouble for that? If the church stalked me like that it wouldn't help me gain a stronger testimony that is for sure.

Let's just say, there's some apparent exaggeration in PP's post; perhaps that should be an universal understanding at this point.

I would go in with D&C 132 at the ready.

I would ask the SP pointblank with my my wife there whether she will have to share me in the Celestial Kingdom with other women for eternity. If he says no, then read to him from D&C 132.

I would ask her what she thinks of so sharing me in the hereafter, which is a necessary part of the new and everlasting covenant. If she's in denial that such is necessary, then have her read from D&C 132.

Then ask the SP if D&C 132 has been excised from the LDS canon.

It sounds like you done kicked your testimonkey's ass to the curb.

Your SP will do nothing but attempt to keep you in, PERIOD.

He may even do what Tal Bachman's SP did.

Bottom line is you no longer believe. Once they realize that, they will use you against your wife and her against you.

Under no circumstances should you allow her to be alone with anyone sympathetic to the church. They will exercise her "respect" of their position in an attempt to sway her.

Personally I would cancel the appt. Work it out with your wife. Keep the SP and his minions out of your marriage.

PP's story leaves out quite a few significant details. While I can't guarantee that your name won't somehow find its way into a SP from posting on MAD, the odds are quite slim.

I CAN tell you that they will never find their way from THIS board, unless you give the readers enough information to figure out who you are.

Given my failed effort to wrestle information out of the MA&DB moderators regarding the identity of a critic who posted my wife's name in a thread (while claiming to know me in real life), I suspect the same holds true for THAT board as well.
