That whole thread was somehow based on my Element essay where I point out a distinction between beliefs, teachings, policies, and 'doctrines' in Mormonism. I was arguing that Mormons (and people in general) often use the word 'belief' to point out things that they personally believe, but also recognize may be false. As an example, I say (pre-2008 election) that the phrase "I believe Obama will win the election, but McCain might be able to beat him" would not be uncommon to utter and would make clear sense.
LoaP was just playing off of it to explore other beliefs in Mormonism that some may have, but recognize may not be the case.
Your trying to tie this with apostasy is just plain stupidity and perhaps evidence that you are really bored.

You're absolutely vile and obnoxious paternalistic air of intellectual superiority towards anyone who takes issue with your clear misapprehension of core LDS doctrine must give one pause. - Droopy

Such as when Bruce R. says, "I believe in Christ, though maybe he isn't real"?
Or how about the articles of faith: We believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God, though maybe it's just literature like Moby Dick?
LoaP is exploring the extent to which he can turn the sum total of Mormon 'doctrine' (as you put it) into opinion that he's free to disagree with and reinvent per his studies of ancient Babylon, Utah history, and Thomas Kuhn.
Remember Korihor, my friend. he said, "I do not deny the existence of a God, but I do not believe that there is a God". Essentially, he's saying he doesn't believe in God but he could be wrong. And Alma saw right through it, pointing out Korihor was possessed with a lying spirit. I guarantee you, narrator, that LoaP and the other apologists are experimenting with the nefarious tactics of Korihor, they put forth their ideas as mere opinion part of an open-ended, non-dogmatic discussion, but opinion that instantly implies the fallibility of firm doctrine. A sly move, a move that flirts with apostasy.

Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.
LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Kind of sounds like a NOM. Maybe the most essential NOMs are apologists.Gadianton wrote:LoaP is exploring the extent to which he can turn the sum total of Mormon 'doctrine' (as you put it) into opinion that he's free to disagree with and reinvent...
