Why are there not more apologists on this site?

My question is if Facsimile 3 really wanted to kick some Anti Mormon butt shouldn't he/she be on this discussion board more.

Many of them were posting just fine in the past, and many good discussions were had. The ignore function works just fine. The problem is simple. Most of the evidence does not support the claims of the LDS church. It's hard to kick any butt on a site that doesn't give you some kind of advantage over non-believers, which is why DCP and buddies have agreed to not post here in hopes of forcing any debate over to MADB where they have favorable moderating. I think they hope that this site will dry up and die, so that those who have sincere questions will have to ask them at MADB. I've seen DCP ask for believers not to post here. I think he may realize that this site is still doing well, and going public about their boycott may have been a mistake. Even DCP has broken it a few times.

One of the problems of free speech is that it's free speech. You can say anything you like, often times to your own detriment.

I agree with Nehor's interpretation. Who wants to come on to a board and suffer being called brainwashed idiots, morg-bots, BCSpace-Kadet, etc. Just look at the abuse the apologists here take.

While I don't think it's as bad as MAD would make it sound, it still doesn't make for good discussions.

Last year, we tried an experiment where we allowed free speech as long as it didn't personally attack anyone. Any personal attacks were deleted from the thread. Personally, I thought it was a big success. People stopped the personal attacks because they knew it would be deleted anyways.

That being said, I don't think the apologists see the abuse the critics take over at MAD. It's just as bad, just coming from the other side.

Suppose I wanted to talk about revelation reasonably. Within the first ten posts five of them would be sarcastic attempts to make the discussion seem idiotic, derailments about polygamy or something else, and someone talking about how Joseph was pure concentrated evil. If you try to respond you get dragged down with their inane comments. If you stay silent, they loudly proclaim victory. The only way to win the battle is not to engage.

Not true. If you want to engage in a reasonable discussion about revelation and you are concerned about derailments, post your topic in the Celestial Forum. That is what that forum is for.

The Celestial Forum is moderated more closely. Threads are split if derailments occur. It is also a "rated G" forum, so there are no worries with language. Personal attacks are also not allowed in the Celestial Forum.

I've tried that once or twice. The reality is that either no one responds here or few do (i.e. I'd be better off discussing it MA&D) or the insults just change into vague dismissals.

Liz, I think you know that I've tried being sincere, civil, and nice on this board back in the good old days. Conclusion: Not worth it.
