Re: Mormon Athletes Testify
Just what we need. Steve Young testifying that God helped him play better on Sunday. Might give more the stones to stay home and support the LDS Athlete by watching the games. If no LDS watch they are not supporting their fellow members.
What a load of horse manure the whole thing is. Most of these jokers chose money and athletics over "service to God" as full time missionaries for two years. After all, two years in the service of The Lord will help them to come back more mature and better able to face life and its challenges, won't it?

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

That may or may not be true. And, frankly, I couldn't care less. But it does make them more competitive NCAA/NJCAA (Read Ricks) athletes.
Which is a crock. If the mission is so important, why petition the NCAA for their exemption?

If that's the case, and it's such an advantage, why isn't BYU winning national championships every single year...in everything?

That's the yardstick? National championship or there's no advantage at all?
Come on.
But you tell me... if the mission is so important, why aren't your athletes giving up two years of eligibility to go? Why do Mormons deserve special treatment?

Why would you "use" eligibility by not playing? That doesn't make any sense.

Athletes are on a five year clock to finish four years of eligibility. Some exceptions to that are season ending injuries determined by an NCAA committee. But that is hardly ever granted, though it is.
However, those who are on a religious mission are not required to start their clock until their mission is complete. There is only one religious organization that has such a comprehensive mission requirement.
Lds led the charge to have this rule established, and it practically only applies to them. So, again, if the mission is so vital, why should the rest of byu, svu, etc., 's competition be forced to compete against older, stronger, more mature athletes?
