A Powerful Testimony

Post by _zzyzx »

About time to wrap this stuff up and get the move completed. Before doing so... an observation on "Powerful Testimony" and LDSinc.

It is not enough to have faith and believe in Truth and The Gospel. It is not enough to simply state "I believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ".

In LDSinc and so many Stake, Ward and other gatherings a simple and heartfelt statement of faith is laughed at. Without extrapolation and the key/codewords to qualify belief and faith you are accused of having a weak testimony. One quickly learns to be more flowery when stating a belief and in publicly stating their faith.

Practiced speakers are a lot like Robert DiNiro in Taxi Driver... probably literally or mentally in front of a mirror practicing their lines so they will be 'more sincere' when they have to deliver them. This is pushed by many LDS leaders with the 'act like you believe and you will come to believe' mantra. In other words, fake it until you make it. Pretend to know until you can fool even yourself is how some put it.

Without a "Powerful Testimony" you are pretty much toast in LDSinc circles so better get out the old Paul Dunn lies and learn how it is really done if you want to be effective. A good lie is so much more believable than the simple truth and so very impressive... a lot more important than faith in LDS settings.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.
