Well, they are Lamanites by adoption! ;-)

Now I have two kids and we will probably have a third. In my view, I just don't see how a man can give equal time and attention to eight different children. And I know at least five LDS families with that amount, and another with ten children. No matter how you look at it, you can't give equal time and attention to eight children, as you could with two or three.

I think this is a ridiculous argument against having a large family. the level of attention, and the type, depends greatly on the age of the child. A 3 year old loves to be the center of attention for a parent while a 13 year old will cringe at the thought of being seen with his or her parents by their friends at the mall. Also, in regards to interaction, siblings provide a great deal of guidance and support not just in childhood, but in adulthood as well. I would even say that a sibling bond is often more important to a person than that of a parent as adulthood progresses. So this "modern" notion that we have to give an intense amount of time, equally, to all our kids from birth to 18 is not just stressful for parents, but will create children yearning to break free of parental controls and domination.

Alfred Adler had a lot to say about the dangers of spoiling kids, or smothering them...I would encourage people to read up on his warnings.

Kevin Graham wrote:"Why me" uses the typical Mormon explanation that Mexicans just have the spirit because they are poor, and that explains their susceptibility to the "holy ghost." What a crock. Funny how that doesn't apply to the poor in Eastern Europe and Russia. So what why me is saying is that the Holy Ghost prefers Hispanics!
Perhaps poor Caucasian people are more critical in their thinking than poor folks from Mexico?

Or perhaps white folks are more likely to believe what they read on the internet concerning LDS Inc?

Have you seen this study, Kevin?

"The Zeal of the Convert"

Mormonism was the only religion surveyed where lifelong members were significantly more religious than the converts. For all other denominations surveyed, it's the converts who are more religious.
"It seems to me that these women were the head (κεφάλαιον) of the church which was at Philippi." ~ John Chrysostom, Homilies on Philippians 13

Interesting.

For a long time I have stated a personal belief that the best Mormon membership comes from TBM wombs. I also believe that LDS Inc knows this and caters to it.

Jack, I think we both agree that labels like "brainwashed" and "cult" don't help in talking about Mormons. So, I avoid those terms at all costs.

With that in mind, how can you describe an organization where those who just happen to be in it are more faithful and excited to be there than those who choose to be in it? Speaking of course of averages, individual persons will of course vary. I just don't get it. I also wouldn't have predicted it. I would have thought that measures of faithfulness would be more similar to other religions, or maybe the two groups would have shown parity.

Again, I don't want to use the labels that the counter-cult people like to throw around. I just have no other explanation for this phenomenon. Maybe if another group showed similar patterns it would give some insight into why this happens and would suggest a good description for the phenomenon.
