Actually, Brigham Young died of arsenic poisoning.
No. William Law performed the Dim Mock on him, and 34 years later it killed him. :-)
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

LOL. Yesssssss!
Although, my wife and I never went as far as saying what the EQP wife said (i.e. God's punishment). We just agreed that it was all a human mistake and that Joseph Smith died because of the natural course of things (which included polygamy). Of course, the God's punishment is actually not very extreme. Maybe she believes Joseph is like David... a fallen prophet. Before the fall, everything was right - he was a prophet.
Interestingly, her 16-yr old son was standing right there listening to the discussion. She said she is frank with her son about this stuff and they are on the same page about it.

It would make a difference. Although, I'm happy with people like these sister's in our ward.
There is another sister I didn't tell you about. She is in primary or nursery. She was talking to my wife in the hall one day and Abraham came up. She told my wife she believes Abraham's practice of plural wifery was not sanctioned by God.
Oh, and I forgot! There is another NOM sister who told us she hates Joseph Smith. Let's see, we now have 5 sisters in our ward that are very troubled about polygamy and who are friends with my wife.

Ask the Google god. Steve Benson has done research on the topic of BY's death, and it is based on the symptomatology of his last illness, which is more consistent with arsenic poisoning than it is with appendicitis or cholera.
Motivation: Speculation is one of his wives. He had planned on establishing a royalty with his descendants, and had already consecrated one of his sons for that role. Others preferred a more pseudo-Democratic means of establishing leadership, consistent with the teachings of the Book of Mormon.

I think you would be surprised at how many LDS women are disgusted by the practice and doctrine (yes it is still a huge part of the church and the CKHL), of polygamy. For most women who love their husbands and family, it is abhorrent to even contemplate.
Think about it... lets say a man takes an additional four wives, each having five children. Lets say the dad makes $100,000 a year. So, now she gets $20,000 to raise her five children, alone... her children get to see their dad about five days a month, she may have an intimate encounter a couple times a month. Gone are the days of sharing a life with a man she loves. Gone are the days of having a partner. She trades in a family life for a communal lifestyle as a single parent. Not too much to celebrate.
No, the only women I have encountered who are down with polygamy are women who just aren't into men or who consider their husbands as a necessary evil.
Being a woman in my line of work, I will tell you I have had many, many LDS women come to me with pain in their hears at the idea of polygamy. They manage it by ignoring it, or trying to convince themselves they will not have to be a part of it, (in spite of prophets assertion to the contrary).
Polygamy is an ugly part of the LDS church. Try as they might to "put it behind them" it is alive and well and only getting bigger and bigger.

I would imagine that most every woman in my ward hates the idea. But what is surprising to me is how many women are not putting this idea up on a shelf to forget about it.
They are going further by saying that it was a horrible mistake - a sin deserving punishment by God.
They have no choice but to do what I started to do: What does that mean about the prophet's calling? Were they inspired men? etc. Maybe they already have. I know one has, but the others?
Once you take this nugget off the shelf and start to play with it, other problems start to surface.
My sisters and SIL's don't like polygamy either. But they have all managed to forget about it and maintain the inspired view of the prophets.
