For Z, drinking alcohol does not cause you to lose control

Z, dude.

From your post on another one of my threads:

I was eating lunch with my boss the other day (outside of Utah) and he asked me, "I found this great beer last time I was visiting Utah. It's called Polygamy Porter - hahahahaha. Isn't that hilarious?" I thought, "huh. I always wondered where our MDB friend got that name from."

Now I know.

Although, beer just doesn't sound that great and the idea of losing control scares me.

Shed those Mormon scare tactics!

You will not lose control if you CONTROL the amount of alcohol that you consume.

So for a fellow your size, I'd say three Polygamy Porters in 90 minutes would give you a good buzz.

While you can get shitfaced by drinking way too much in over a short period of time(or long period) AND lose control, you are an adult and know how to drink responsibly.

I will be at a party tonight doing just that.

One of the strangest aspects of losing belief, was the pernicious teachings / indoctrination of the WoW mandates.

I was a full blown atheist (atheist concerning elohim) / agnostic for over a year before I drank coffee or felt comfortable drinking beer. Somehow the litmus test of being LDS or not is whether you obey the WoW counsel or not. I would have felt more at ease in an oil drenched orgy of strippers, midgets, leather whips and whipped cream than sitting down at a bar with other telestial bound folks and drinking a stiff drink. Go figure.

Now, if you happen to take some acid and mix it with five or six strong bong hits of weed, yes, you might feel really out of control.

If you drink a few beers, have a few shots, or a couple glasses of wine, what you get is a really happy buzz. You ought not drive, but you will be in complete control. Well, you may not be able to control yourself from hugging your neighbor and telling them that "you love them", but that is a good kind of "out of control".

Isn't alcohol a more harmful of a drug than marijuana?

One can die of alcohol poisoning. It is nearly impossible to get enough THC in one's system to cause death. However, in moderation, each to his own. Marijuana is more legally harmful, even in small amounts. How is that for dancing around the issue? Image

Hey!! I did it!!

Too scary. Can't do it. I'm a prude.

Listening to pop music is a big enough transition for me man.

Many people use alcohol as an excuse to do things they wanted to do while they were sober. "Hey, I couldn't control myself: I was drunk!" But the reality is that people have a lot of control over themselves even while drunk. There have been a number of interesting studies that strongly suggest that the disinhibiting effect of alcohol is largely psychological. Newly ex-Mormons who are interested in "strong drinks" would do well to read this article.

Alcoholic culture means throwing away all rules for drinking. People with a drinking problem are enmeshed in alcoholic culture, to the point that the only response is to stop drinking, and grow beyond that culture. Dry alcoholics believe that they don't DESERVE to associate with people who don't drink for other reasons, or who drink in moderation. At present, my rules for drinking are very cautious.

1. don't drink when stressed, or hungry, angry, thirsty, or lonely.
2. don't drink alone.
3. have only one drink with a meal, or just before going to bed.
4.stick with low alcohol drinks.
5. appreciate the taste

A drink before bed doesn't do me good -- an hour later the alcohol wears off and I wake up. I specifically try not to drink alcohol within an hour of going to bed.
