I assumed Ahab was the name of the person (MADite probably) Seth was quoting.

I was quoting Ahab from the MADB from Consig's thread on GC.

The statement just struck me as a bit funny.

Oh.

Next time, I respectfully request that you type [ quote="Ahab" ] at the beginning of the quoted material so that people know that you're quoting someone and not adding a one-word comment.

Also, if you're quoting someone on another board, please add a link to that comment so we can read the thread for ourselves in context.

Everyone laughed.

Why did they laugh at that comment?

Because Mormons are notorious for having meetings over, like, everything. Even people with bottom-rung callings like activities committee get excessive meetings to discuss menial crap. By the time you're prophet of the church, you've been in meetings a lot more than "once." 98% of your waking existence probably consists of boring meetings.

I'm not saying it's the funniest joke, but that's probably why people chuckled. I mean come one, it's Relief Society General Conference. The bar for what's entertaining is set pretty low.

You are correct, Mr. Stakhanovite, but you wouldn't believe what happened to me this morning.

My husband has been scheduled to work for the last three weeks and was scheduled to work again today, so he was going to miss church for the 4th week in a row. The problem with him missing church is that it means our daughter misses going to church with him, so she's effectively being raised as an evangelical.

This morning he kind of whined to me that our agreement was to raise our daughter in both faiths and it isn't his fault that he's missing church to support our family, so I ought to take our daughter to the LDS church today on my own. I answered this with a scowl. "Since when have you ever taken her to my church when I was unavailable on a Sunday?"

He absolutely swears up and down that he did this "once" when we lived in Utah and she was a baby. He also swears that if I ever have a job that means I have to work on Sundays and miss church, he'll take her to the evangelical church without me at least once a month.

"Fine. I'll do it. But I'm not dressing us up!" He agrees to these terms.

So, I am now getting ready to go to my husband's 1 PM LDS church service with our daughter all by myself.

Gods, I am a pushover.
