Really? A spook alley in the chapel? As in where sacrament meeting is held? Boy, times have changed. My kids had to wear church clothes on a Friday night to go practice the primary program in the chapel.

Anyway, the funny part was that my bro totally rocked the place and got in all kinds of trouble because he was desecrating the Lord's house. That is how I remember it anyway. My bro was a good influence on me those days... he had a huge perm and varneys(sp?) with black strings and leather sides on them too. He was so cool.

What you sense at a baptism is real. I can still feel it when I attend events like this. It doesn't mean the church is true. It simply means that the group on the other side still buys into it. Even though spirits can project love or even a form of peace doesn't mean they're infallable.

I bet mind control and mystical manipulation continues on the other side.

..Not all of them have our best in mind. That is why I am hesitant to obey/believe them even if they shower peace and love.

This is exactly my current conclusion.

Brigham Young taught that the spirits of the departed are all around us. In that sense, of course any Mormon MUST believe in ghosts. So many departed spirits have parted the veil and appeared to the Saints over the years that their existence can hardly be questioned. Many of the Founding Fathers appeared to President Wilford Woodruff in the temple and asked him to perform the sacred temple ordinances. Would we call them ghosts? Obviously, we don't believe in Caspar-like ghosts and such silliness. But departed spirits seeking temple work? Of course! I am reminded of a story told by a high councilor in our stake a few years back about his young son who was crushed in an accident involving a garage door. The boy died but was brought back to life after receiving a priesthood blessing. He told a story of visiting the spirit world and seeing spirits in cages with symbolic wings, needing to be freed. "Free the Birdies" he said. Yes, of course there are "ghosts." As one said up thread, we are all ghosts. Some of us are embodied ghosts; some are disembodied, separated from us by a veil that gets thinner the more spiritually in tune you become. Those, like Polygamy Porter, who have hardened their hearts to spiritual things--who are past feeling--cannot discern the spirits of those who have passed through the veil.
