Just as there were counterfeit Messiahs running around Palestine in Jesus' time, so, too, did the Adversary inspire counterfeits to the restoration. The free society that was necessary for the restored church to flourish was the same one that Satan took advantage of to try to sow seeds of confusion in the people. Wherever the Lord's true church and prophets are, there, too, will be the Adversary with a counterfeit message. It's one of the signs that the true church is, well, true. Those with eyes to see will see and ears to hear will hear.
