Who the Hell is "Vardis Fisher?"
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Google? Read a book?

A well known western/Mormon novelist of the 30's and 40's. He wrote Mountain Man which was the basis for the film "Jeremiah Johnson," and many other (mostly historical) novels. Children of God is Fisher's novel about Mormon history.

There are a host of Mormon/Utahn writers of that era (and slightly beyond) besides Fisher, like Maurine Whipple, Virginia Sorensen, Samuel Wooley Taylor, Bernard de Voto, Wallace Stegner, who all wrote critical treatments of Mormon culture and life.

Being in Utah, you could avail yourself of Ken Sanders' Uconoclast project, which is meant to celebrate the many eclectic and radical writers and thinkers who have come from Utah backgrounds.

Clearly, there is need for such an educational project.

I read Mondo Utah. Are you implying that that isn't enough?

This is amazing. To have a letter where an ancestor claims to have seen a miracle would be very convincing that the lds church is true, especially the miracle that happened when the lds church was to decide who to lead it.

What does your wife think of this letter? She must be hopeful of your return to the fold.

But it is very convincing. I have said it before. Much that was said at that time as gone with the wind. Words float into the air and disappear unless recorded. I think that much was said back then which confirmed the lds church and the experiences people had.

And I am sure the we have only a portion of the words that Joseph Smith said or reportedly said.

A miracle, you say? Let's re-examine the text:

"Brigham’s countenance, his voice, jestures [sic] and everything truly represented the martyred prophet in such a striking manner I shall never forget."

So Brigham could imitate Joseph well when the occasion called for it. What's the big deal?

Sorry about that. I just thought it was funny that my relative made sure I was aware of the relation. I figured Blixa would know who that was.

That was my first thought too. No miracle, just a conniving man with some acting ability.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Written like a true blue NOM. Maybe Rich Little gave him lessons.
