Indeed.

My SIL just asked if she could drive over to our house on Sunday mornings and take our kids to church.

To each their own... yeah.

Why don't you ask your kids?

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

Do they really? I wondered that after sending my dad an email explaining my personal feelings about religion. Is it possible for me not so sound shadey? I assume you wanted to refer to shady? What is the opposite of that? Sunshiny? How can I make my words sunshiny, I wonder?

I have asked my kids several times. They are overjoyed to know church is no longer a part of their lives. Pure happiness and sunshine. I felt the Holy Ghost when they expressed their happiness to me.

Mr. MTC,

Did you like the MTC? I loved the food. I realize I'm one of the few who did though... Man, I really loved it. I think the thing I loved was the all-you-can eat factor. I gained a lot of weight in that place. Did you like the roll-plays? That is one thing I hated. Trying to resolve the concerns of an actor... bleah.

Ironically, Buffalo mentioned earlier in the thread that LDS apologists were the ones supposedly feeling persecuted.

Thanks, -Wade Engund-

I don't know what it's going by these days, but Wade used to call this the "mirror" approach. In other words, respond to critics with an exaggerated version of what he saw as their unwarranted attacks. The first time I ever interacted with Wade, I couldn't figure out why he was being so personal and hostile until someone explained this to me (and Wade confirmed it).

For a time, Wade gave up this approach in favor of the "ex-Mormons are guilty of flawed thought processes and possible personality disorders" meme. In this one, Wade would counsel us to use cognitive behavioral therapy to overcome our distorted thinking.

The one constant has always been this: if you no longer believe in the church, the fault lies with you. It's worse if you say anything critical.

I'm not saying this to attack Wade, but just clarifying from observations made over, what, 8 or 9 years now.

I think Wade means well, in all honesty. It just doesn't always come across that way.

I had a tough time in the MTC, mostly because I had a companion who stayed up until 1 a.m. studying and berated the rest of us for not being as diligent as he was. But then at odd moments on P-Days he would just vanish. I tried very hard to get along with him, but it wasn't easy. My BIL finally told me that sometimes, loving someone means not punching him in the face.

The food was almost identical to BYU dorm food, so it wasn't all that appealing to me.

It's just pa pa and his pools again. Don't let them splash their bile on you, runtu...

I'm pretty much bile-proof these days. :-)

by the way, it was unbelievably nice to write a check for my daughter's semester at UVU that was only $75. That has put me in such a good mood that even the mirror approach can't touch me.

While I wouldn't say I loved the food, it was during these meals that I made a lot of friends. So I enjoyed them for a different reason. Were you bringing this up because you were trying to show what you believe were typical MAD type responses to apostate questions?
