Too much of watching "Southland"...now there is the new show “Chicago way” to extend the stereotypes. You do all know that is TV, and most of the time “we” are the ones on trail and on camera? But those guys who get run over by a drunk driver at a traffic stop, or shot while trying to talk a gun of someone instead of shooting first? The cops and firemen getting last rites before going into the trade-center’s knowing they would no be making it out. Yeah we are just a bunch of lying pigs. I see the light now, I should just do the right thing and go home and eat my gun.

With few exceptions, TV provides pretty much the exact opposite. I'm of the view that countless shows like Law & Order where the final police and prosecutorial conclusions about who is guilty are almost invariably right, and where they almost always have good intentions, have done damage to our culture. It's feeding the mentality that leads to a lack of accountability for police and prosecutors and retarding vigilance against their mistakes and abuses of power. If anything, we need more mass media pointing out the corruption and failings of the justice system since we are the ones ultimately controlling it.

I also think this post is a little too black and white. Yeah, there were cops who died in 9/11 who probably were complete bullies. Some of them probably lied on the witness stand. That problem is pervasive enough that it's a near statistical guarantee. But that doesn't mean they can't do good things too. You can watch an endless cache of youtube videos of police brutality where the officers charge their victims with crimes to cover their abuse of them. (Don't worry. Many of them are getting very stern paid suspensions after getting caught.) I'm sure even those officers probably have done lots of good things. They're cops. They're put in a position to help others all the time, even in the face of danger. It's their job. It does not deny the heroism of cops who rushed into the WTC to point out that some of them invariably were dicks.

Whatever the case I think its apparent you watch to much tv and youtube.

My father was a cop and my son in law is a cop.

I haven't seen the slightest evidence the "most cops" are pigs.

I have only been treated poorly by one cop. On the other hand, a cop has risked his/her own safety for me more than once.

Cops do not decide laws!

They enforce the laws, including pot laws and speeding laws, because the general voting public wants them to do just that! Cops have no right to ignore the law just because George Carlin or anyone else, thinks they are stupid laws.
If you think pot laws are unfair then blame your grandma and the politicians she favors and whoever else keeps voting against legalization everytime it comes up.

For your information, most cops wish pot was legal. Furthermore, they are not looking for the guy with a pot plant growing in his window. Like I said, do you expect them to decide unlaterally to not enforce pot laws and do so despite the wishes of the voting public and despite their having no right to selectively enforce laws put in place by the very people we put into office?


They overstep their job description and act as judges and thereby risk their jobs everytime they look the other way regarding pot and speeding and this they often do anyway just to avoid being despised by ironically judgmental "cool" anti-establishment types!
They are in a tough spot all the time.
