Don't be stupid. I do not smoke pot, but I can see when people are being hurt. Can you? Well, no. Code enforcement? You are among the worst of the police then. I read what you wrote. I get your point. And I think its stupid. What's wrong with that? I think the games being played here by critics towards Mormons are stupid childish games. That's not to say you won't say the same to any cop, but its really personal and not germaine to discussion on Mormonism. Name calling like that is only going to provoke and most critics seem to be nothing more than provokers. And then, as has been the case with a couple of critics, they turn around and whimper and whine when an LDS turns the tables. Its divisive.

I didn't say you're a mean-spirited provoker. I said the games being played, whether intentional or not, and which you contributed to, whether intentional or not, is stupid...and yes there are some pretty mean-spirited provokers here.

One of the blogs I read daily chronicles abuses of police power and corruption in the system on a near daily basis.

It's disheartening to read story after story of police officers being caught red-handed doing things that would land an ordinary citizen multiple years in jail resulting in slaps on the wrist like a paid suspension or nothing at all. It's even more disheartening to watch people advocate for laws that would insulate police officers committing abuses of power and illegal acts from ever being found out, much less punished. There's also widespread systemic problems like paramilitary raids that result in a high chance of injury and even death when a simple warrant procedure would suffice or confiscation laws so loose that police can break into a private home on the basis of nothing more than a tip, take all their valuable property to spend on themselves, and not have to charge, much less convict the original property owners of anything.

My downstairs neighbor of years ago became a police officer. He was completely open about the job giving him a chance to bully Mexicans. No lie. He used to knock mirrors off cars he thought were owned by Mexicans. The man had a confederate flag hanging in his bedroom. We live in Wisconsin.

My girlfriend's brother is a sheriff. He says several of the officers he works with keep drugs on them to plant on people if they feel they need to arrest someone. It's generally used to convict people they "know" are guilty, but can't catch, but even though he says he doesn't do it and disapproves, the nonchalance he has when it talks about it disturbs me.

That doesn't mean I think all cops are pigs. That's silly. There good cops and bad cops. And even bad cops spend most of their day to day work helping people.

I do find people who have this amazing deference and worship of police officers as if they were angels in blue to be infuriating, though.
