Of resurrected bodies and Patriarchal blessings

Post by _greentam »

Today while at my mother's house, I was talking to her and my sister, when somehow resurrected bodies came up. My mom informed me that she
A. Thinks that Jesus was a white guy
B. Everyone will be white when they're resurrected.
I'm sure the latter has been brought up here before, but was this actually something doctrinal? Or is the "everyone white" after resurrection that is more folk lore?
I also found out today that my sister is changing what she wants to go to school for because she got her Patriarchal blessing. It said in it that she "would teach". Now that seems a bit vague for me to totally change my master for. Does anyone else know/have had an experience with family members doing very drastic things because of these blessings?

Brigham Young spoke on the "whiteness" of peoples skin and how he had never yet seen a pure white person. Seems like he was saying that God and righteous people were or would eventually come pure white---like snow or bleached paper.

Put your mother in contact with Simon Belmont, so he can inform her that the Mormonism she grew up with was not what he experienced at all.

Most stories about resurrected beings state they are clothed in blinding white. I don't think this has anything to do with skin color. If it does, we aren't all going to look Caucasian either.

I have distinct memories, when I was about 11 or 12, of seeing a news program about an all-Black church in the South somewhere who were displaying portraiture of Christ depicted as a Negro. I was so totally offended that those people could fantasize about Jesus and actually change his race! I grew up in the one true church and new exactly what Jesus looked like! And HE WAS NOT BLACK! I knew that Heavenly Father would punish those people for misrepresenting the race of Jesus like that! Especially galling for me was that I knew that since Jesus lived before 1978, there was no way he could have been black because he could not have held the priesthood. These things were self-evident.

Imagine my chagrin, many years later when I realized that the blonde Nordic Jesus as depicted by the LDS church was probably just as inaccurate as those Black Christians had depicted way back when...

I think it speaks volumes about its racial hang-ups that the LDS Church does not represent Christ as a semitic, olive-skinned, dark-haired Jew.

I don't care what God's skin color is or what his ethnic features are. It seems that it would be just as likely for God to be 'African" as He would "Asian". Or even Klingon or Ferengi for that matter. I've said things like this from the pulpit too and there's been nary a twitch.

What fun!

Well, since bcspace's deity has a body of flesh and bones, and thus has a certain size, shape and even body mass index, I suppose that he must have the kind of physical characteristics (eye shape, presence or absence of epicanthal fold, skin colour, shape and size of nose etc. ) that we commonly use to distinguish ethnicity by visual inspection.

So, according to those characteristics, what race (in the common unscientific sense of the word) does bcspace's deity appear to be? bcspace may not care, but there are people who do in his church, I suspect ...
