Yep, and I have copies of two of their journals and what they thought of the practice. Very interesting stuff.

I assume you mean LDS polygamy, and yes I am. I would add that everyone has polygamous ancestors. :)

I would've thought PP to jump at the chance to be a descendant of one of those.

So this was post-Manifesto, I take it?

And did either her husband or her sisters go along with the idea?

All pre-manifesto. Only one husband in the mix, and yeah, he went along with it. ;) As did the sisters.

greentam wrote:Yes! I am. If you've ever hear of the man, Stephen Markham, he's my ancestor. Not to mention my husband's father (polygamist). Also, My grandfather says his aunts(?) were polygamists as well. I don't have anything scandalous to say really. I've been trying to do more looking into Stephen, but it seems that I can't find journals or anything. I forget what wives I'm related to, but looking at my personal genealogical files, it says different things than the "official" Church website...
About what do I think of them, it's all very interesting. I would want to know my direct ancestors more to really say anything about them. But with my living relatives that are polygamists, they're just fine. I am still working on generals, but my major is Anthropology (thinking cultural a. recently) so I find studying this type of thing interesting.

A distant relative put together a fairly large book on the Stringhams and Ashbys (1949), that I have a copy of. It has comments from journals, photos and what not, but it is obviously edited for faith-promotedness (yes I just made up a word). The editor is Bryant Stringham Hinckley, the father of Gordon B. I've tried to find the connection, but as far as I can tell, B. S. Hinckley was named after Bryant and there is no relation there.

At any rate, it is a fascinating book. One of the few Mormon-related books I've kept.
