Well, that is opinion not doctrine. :D

I ground my own for years, and one day decided to try out the grocery store grinder. There isn't a noticeable difference between coffee ground a few days ago, or that ground at home this morning.

There is a noticeable difference between coffee ground who knows when and sitting on the shelf for who knows how long, and grinding it fresh in the store or at home.

But yes, own your own grinder for those occasions where you run into a coffee bean you just have to have. :-)

PS: Starbucks coffee tastes burnt to me.

No it is doctrine not opinionImage
I find a huge difference between coffee ground just now and coffee ground 20 minutes ago, just as there is a huge difference between coffee ground in a whirly grinder and a burr grinder. And I've found a big difference in flavor from high-end burr grinders.
Starbucks tastes burnt because it is burnt, I roast my own and it is not in the least bit burnt, friends have commented that it is a bit sweet even without sugar. And there is a big difference between coffee roasted 1 or 2 days ago and coffee roasted a week ago. I've gotten very fussy with coffee, so now I blend and roast my own beans, and make coffee one cup at a time with fresh ground beans. This has dramatically reduced my coffee consumption, where I used to drink 2 pots of coffee a day now I drink 2-4 cups a day.

I happen to live in one of the uncivilized areas. :-)

You were warned about this hazard of moving to Utah County. Civilization abruptly ends at 14800 South.

You're in SLC right zee?

Check out Millcreek roasters, main street, about 550 south. They can grind it there, or buy a cheap 20 dollar grinder from wallmart.

They have beans from all over the world with some nice in house blends to choose from.

If you find a blend you like (or make up your own from there) and drink regularly, they will mail it to you on a repeating cycle. They swear beans are like fruit, having a very short shelve life.

Spoiled me (love their french roast, black)

Thanks for the great posts everyone.

This has nothing to do with coffee but I must ask, has anyone tried steel cut oatmeal for breakfast? Oh my. The best ever. Usually I read during breakfast but this was so delicious, I found myself just eating and savoring.

Zeez, I have had steel cut. But now I am wondering if there is some POTCOTHCOJCOLDS prohibition of it, given that you ask as though and in the context of it being some sort of 'sinful' delight?

I'm still following the WoW, even though I don't believe. From my inactive days, I remember coffee smelling a hell of a lot better than it tasted.

SP,

If BY knew that I was buying oats imported from Ireland instead of the ZCMI brand, he may have disciplined me. Also, BKP might not be proud of me feeling a sensation stronger than the spirit while I partook this morning.

Thanks, Zeez.

Steel cut oats > the holy ghost?

I can go with that.

I find the taste of coffee a bit surprising, which makes it appealing in a way.
