Re: Who is Joseph?
Porter if you are actually Joseph, then you have lots of explaining to do! I think it would be similar to finding out your super-hot, tall, blonde girlfriend named "Georgia", actually came into this world as "George".
Porter and Joseph are not the same person. . . trust me!

I dispute PP is a "biased scoundrel."
I could care less if he has a sock.
Why do you care?

Do you think it's ethical for someone to set out to deliberately deconvert, and boast about those "deconversions", because he (or she) believes it will benefit them as much as it has him?
If PP has the power of his convictions, then why doesn't he post under his real name, like the "notorious" Ed Decker has? Why doesn't he say something like: "My name is ____and I'm here to tell you that Mormonism is a fraud, and to help you get out of that religion for your own sake!
The same goes for the ignoramus who posts as "Joseph", who doesn't appear to have the least understanding of Mormonism. He would ride any anti-Mormon Jack-Ass available. If you think this dinosaur brain "critic" contributes anything to serious debate, then I overestimated your intelligence.
There are many posters here who don't want to offend their believing friends and family, and thus post anonymously. Maybe because they believe that Mormonism makes them better people, in spite of their own disbelief? Or perhaps for some other reasons.
The argument about bad apologetics doesn't come into this. Perhaps those who really care about bad apologetics are interested in improving Mormonism? Or should I say "perish the thought"?
PP has made it known that his "mission" is to turn away from the faith every living Mormon he comes across, and he gloats about this. His gloating would be more credible if he posted under his real name, but no, he can't do that.

What do you see as unethical? I see people trying to get people in or out of religions all over the world.

Does it matter? Why do you even care what he does? I don't care as long as he isn't protesting and getting in peoples faces about it.

"Getting in peoples faces" is what he has done for years, which is why I saw no difference between him and Joseph. To criticise poor, dishonest, shoddy and uncivil Mormon apologetics is one thing. To try to actively lead people out of their religious beliefs, in toto is quote another. As I said, I await Porter to put his real life name to his criticisms, if he is so convinced that this is a devious fraud that needs to be exposed. Is that too much to ask?

Likewise, I would be proud of any converts I make to my new found religion. I would be so proud that I would post on the board about it.
Ray,
How would you like to experiment upon the words of Homer? Would you like to try a prayer to Athena? She is very powerful and wise. Try it. I dare you.

Can I study it out in my mind first? Where can I find what Athena has written? Does Homer have a promise somewhere? Where can I find that?

Well has Landor remarked: "Some tell us there were twenty Homers; some deny that there was ever one. It were idle and foolish to shake the contents of a vase, in order to let them settle at last. We are perpetually labouring to destroy our delights, our composure, our devotion to superior power. Of all the animals on earth we least know what is good for us. My opinion is, that what is best for us is our admiration of good. No man living venerates Homer more than I do."
Let me ask everyone: Does it bother you that a powerful man (Odysseus) is worshiping a woman? We should all sit next to the fire tonight and consider this question for a season... Are you surprised that Homer was brave enough to present such an idea to us?
Does it bother you that Athena challenges the power of the many gods of the Universe, even Zeus himself? Zeus (supposedly the greatest) was afraid of what she would become. How dare a male god bow to the power of a female!
For those wondering whether Athena can promise us anything, refer to Iliad 84. She gives strength and daring (Iliad 164, 168, 191).
Other gods and goddesses are involved in the works of men, but none are so explicit and immense as the deeds of Athena.

Who disputes this? Bring forth your strong reasons.
He's actually the reincarnation of Joseph Smith, trying to atone for his past sins.
