One thing to keep in mind from the SWG affair

Post by _EAllusion »

When various LDS posters call this board a "trailerpark," a "cesspool" and other familiar insults, that's not always tongue in cheek, and even when it is, that's not always the effect on readers. When LDS posters constantly attack the integrity and motives of people here and, in some cases, just flat lie about what is happening, that is not without effect.

I think you can read some of the hate people have and their dismissive attitude towards this board, a board they almost never peruse, as in part a direct consequence of that. There are people who genuinely hate you for being here. That behavior is "cultish" and to be expected in all honesty, but it should be thought about when people repeat those insults and misrepresentations over and over and over. It is meant to poison the well so people's mind will shut down before even listening to what you have to say. When DCP called this place a den of iniquity and others implied that the m.o. of great many of the posters is libel, vile threats, cruelty and dishonesty, people believe that.

It's not Ok.

Amen to that. I don't have much good to say about MDD, but there are good people there and really interesting discussions. I don't like the moderation there and the culture of bullying and attack. That said, I don't like the bullying and attacking I see here, either, but it's not enough to make me write the place off as some cesspool of hatred. It is definitely not that.

Echoing Blixa, I'll just say that I am grateful for the friends I have made here. You have really helped me through some difficult times. I don't know how I would have gotten through the last 5 months of illness without you.

Hello,

Well, the difference between this place and many other places is the sheer amount of individual liberty one enjoys here. For example, Mr. Drunkle Droopy can post here to his inebriated heart's content, but anywhere else he's banned very quickly.

This place is simply amazing for sticking to its original intent.

what it comes down to is most apologists and similar posters can handle the heat whereas this sgw fella is unable to do so...I do not condone trashing his family but he just trashed everyone on this board in his own thread. SGW is a hypocrite. If need be we must establish a legal fund to fend off nutcases.

EA is right.

Words like "Drunkle" and "inebriated" do not help and are not supported by any evidence. This is a personal attack that has nothing to do with the OP. That which is not part of the solution is part of the problem. I hope you'll be part of the solution, Cam, not part of the problem.

Good points, EA.

I would add that is goes both ways, too.

One example is Scratch constantly referring to the other board as "the ironically named MAD/FAIR/MDD board." Members of MDB are often mean-spirited to members of MDD, and vice versa.

My advice, whenever someone objects to being called something or another...

Prove them wrong!

:-)

I think this board is great and enjoy most everyone who posts here, even if I do not always agree with their opinions or ideas. I learn a lot, chuckle a lot, and find this a place to freely share my thoughts.

Having said this, we probably could do better in cleaning up the trash now and then! ;-)

I think it's OK to refer to the ironically named FAIR board given that it was/is notoriously unfair in its moderating policies, even openly so at times. I'm sure you could come up with some valid examples, but this isn't one of them.

I'm bumping this up for another thread.

Hello Ms. Harmony,

Well, when you get attacked like this:

She's another anonymous, cowardly little apostate who has no name or face attached to her online moniker, but who delights in slandering and caulumnizing the general authorities of the Church and other well known apologists, who do have names and faces.

And you respond with the above... I have to admit it's impressive.
