Speaking of polygamy...
It's always in the back of the minds of believing members that someday, in the resurrection or thereabouts, they'll be compelled to live a polygamous lifestyle. But where exactly does that come from? A conference talk? Extrapolating from abandoned justifications for 19th century polygamy?

I wouldn't use the word "compelled," but it is clear in LDS teachings that plural marriage will be practiced in the celestial kingdom. Men can be sealed to more than one woman, though obviously not in this life.
This isn't something that is talked about in manuals or conference talks. But last I checked section 132 is still scripture, so it is still doctrine. And the practice I mentioned above means that church policy adheres to its doctrine that there will be plural marriage in the celestial kingdom.

Yes, really. Aren't you Mormon?

I thought a widower could be sealed to his second wife in this life which in a way means we still practice polygamy. I don't think that is allowed for widow though.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

I meant that the wife has to have died before the surviving husband can be sealed to another. Sorry for not being clear.

I am. Active too. So I was just suprised that I don't have such thoughts.

Do you live by yourself on a mountain top? Do you have your weekly sacrament delivered to you by helicopter?

Re: Speaking of polygamy...
Not polygamy, exactly, but my wife says she won't have to be with her ex in the afterlife... even though they are sealed.
When I ask why, she just says, "I don't know. I just believe that."
I suspect that most members feel the same way.
"I don't believe we'll have to live polygamy."
"Why?"
"Just because."
