Oh no, SNOW

Post by _Jersey Girl »

Let it be recorded in the annals of human history that today, October 8, 2011, marks the first snow fall of the season in the general location of the Jersey homestead.

It was predicted as a "light dusting". It's up to 4 inches at this writing. And still snowing. Light dusting, um, no.

I realize that there are many reasons to appreciate this change in the weather for example, the landscape is covered in a beautiful blanket of white, it outlines the trees, makes the air feel fresh and renewed, and it makes you want to curl up in a down throw and read or do homey things like bake bread, a pot of soup, light scented candles, build a cozy fire and that sort of thing. Skiers and snowboarders are no doubt celebrating the onset of winter snows.

But it wears on you.

After a few months of lugging around in boots, shoveling and plowing the drive, and walking like a penguin every blessed place you go, you begin to think about how you're going to be doing this until May or more.

Ugh.

I will try to change my attitude this season. Try to think positively and appreciate this. In some odd way, even though I hate the many months of snow, it all seems familiar and is usually how we live at least 8 months out of the year.

I suppose there is some sense of comfort in that.

SNOW, BFF!!!!!

At least it didn't happen in September. I could have waited til Halloween, though.

It didn't stick here. I am determined to use my snowshoes this winter!!!

BFF,

I live at a relatively high elevation, around 7600 or 7800 ft, so if snow is predicted for the mountains, we usually get it too. "In town" there is about 1-2 inches and people are going about their business as usual.

Here, it is up to about 5-6 inches and me, I'm shoveling wet snow--the worst kind! If I hear one more person say "we need the moisture", I swear I'm gonna clobber them!

My one saving grace right now is beautiful scented candles (I always have tons ready to go) in Cranberry Woods (from B&B) and opening the door to the cupboard, seeing my jars of extract and giving them a little shake. :-) Really, looking at those jars is just a little piece of homemade therapy, isn't it?

I could use some snow shoes like you have! It's definitely a Chicken Pot Pie day around here, but I will have to settle for crock pot chicken!

:-D

Oooh, yes it is!

Crock pot chili day here. That means leftover chili tomorrow. Yay!

Hi Jersey Girl,

I want to go to visit the Place where you are living at. The Place where I am staying at now, it doesn’t get basically any snow. I very much miss being in the snow.

When I lived in Utah, the first snow was exciting. It would usually melt in the valleys, but would stay in the mountains and form the first layer for skiing.

Later, when I lived in Tennessee, it was depressing. The trees were gray, the ground was gray, the snow quickly turned gray and it seemed pointless.

It never snows where I am now (except in the mountains fifty miles away). I find that I miss it.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.
