Could we get a coupla more Moderators around here?
Shades,
After reviewing some of the active threads today, I've reached the conclusion that this place is currently going to hell in a hand basket. Two posters have walked off the stage, one appears to be permanent and the other temporary.
I don't blame them.
Please keep in mind that I'm from Jersey and there is not a whole lot that I find offensive, however, in reading through threads earlier, I have to admit that some of what I saw left even me in disgust.
I know that many or most of us are busy running around preparing for the upcoming holiday and that includes moderators.
Would you consider putting a few temp mods on here?
Yes, I'm volunteering. I don't like seeing people feeling so repulsed that they start leaving.

Can you point to something that a moderator enforcing the rules as they apply to Terrestrial could have done to prevent these people taking their departure? Some specific relevant instances of transgressive behavior that went uncorrected? I am not saying there weren't any, but a general sense of 'muddiness' is not something that more moderation can necessarily cure.

To Chap and whomever else intends to debate the OP.
Not playing.
Both the request and the offer are on the table.
That will be the extent of my participation on this topic until and unless Shades comments.

As long as the new moderator isn't Jersey Girl, I'm cool with it.

She then cited stemelbow and Ceeboo as examples.
To my request that she should cite instances of posts that could have offended them, and that a moderator could have dealt with under the rules applying to Terrestrial (that bit is important), she replies as above.
Jersey Girl seems to be well liked by several people here. I have no personal knowledge of her.
But just on the basis of her posts in this thread, I am not sure that I would be happy about her having any special influence on matters of moderation, which should be about rules, not feelings: otherwise we may end up moving in the MAD direction, where the only rule is not to upset the mods.

Chap pretty much nails it.
Please point out how having more moderators would've prevented stemelbow from leaving and Ceeboo from taking a break until after New Year's Day--preferably in their own words.

I have to agree. Take a look at her reaction to Chap's question. Jersey Girl can be cool sometimes, but at other times, not so sure.

Side note - I just read the whole Hitchens thread, and no board rules were broken, so I'm curious what type of moderation Jersey Girl would have inflicted on the thread?
