Any Other Monson Supporters out there?

Post by _KevinSim »

Just out of curiosity, are there any other posters (or readers for that matter) on the Terrestrial Forum who actually believe that God has chosen Thomas Monson as His spokesman to the world? I've been posting for some time now, and sometimes it seems like I'm the only actively believing Latter-day Saint here. I don't want to put myself up on a pedestal; I certainly don't mind talking with people who don't believe as I do; I guess I'm just wondering if all the active LDS posters are over on the Celestial Forum or something.

I am LDS and I believe God can speak through Thomas Monson or any person and when they speak the truth, I am happy to endorse it.

Do I believe God only speaks with or through Thomas Monson to the world? LOL no. There are billions of people and many nations on this planet and that is non-sense. I believe instead that every people have their own prophets. For example, MLK and Gandhi were both prophets.

Thomas Monson is the leader of the Mormon Church and if he seeks the Lords direction on affairs of the Church, then and only then, would I consider him a prophet in that capacity.

My concept of deity doesn't correspond with that claim in any way.

Thanks for the response Tobin. I suspect there are many points of theology we disagree on, but heck, there are many points of theology where I disagree with friends I see every Sunday at church, so that's not a big deal. It's just nice to get some good companionship here on the Terrestrial Forum.

Thanks for the response, Liz3564. Like I told Tobin, it's nice to have some good companionship (with you and the seven you mentioned) here.

Kishkumen, what exactly is your concept of deity? I'd love to discuss it with you if you don't mind talking about it with me.

I'm a fan of President Monson. I see a difference between KevinSim setting President Monson up as the spokesman to the world instead of describing him as being the spiritual adviser for Mormons. The former is like putting President Monson on a tripod stool with an unstable leg. Whoever stand on that stool will fall. President Monson can succeed at being the spiritual adviser for Mormons.

Moksha, do you think then that God doesn't have a spokesman to the world, or do you think rather that Monson just isn't that spokesman?

God doesn't speak to Pres Monson for each individual. God speaks to the individual, and if they're so inclined, they hear him. God speaks to Pres Monson only as far as the collective body of Mormons needs. And often, as evidenced by the decided lack of inspiration and revelation coming out of SLCentral these days, Pres Monson doesn't listen (I suspect it's because he spends too much time with Packer).
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
