Vote! The most interesting Mormon feature
What Mormon related idea/feature interests you the most? What draws you to Mormonism? What, if anything, leaves you spell-bound?
My vote is:
1. Garment reform
2. Translation of ancient text via Pseudoarcheology
Thank you!

I have two.
1. The fact that every generation is the chosen generation.
2. The words the Prophet speaks are to be followed without question when he's alive but can be rejected when he's dead.

Nothing about Mormonism leaves me spell-bound. What fascinates me is the blind faith and obedience of it's membership.

1) Utah history/culture of violence during Reformation
2) The courage of individual members in the face of #1
3) Wonderful pre-correlation neighborhood cultures
4) The idea of eternal progression and becoming gods (still, I think a beautiful idea in the abstract and one of the most shameful of contemporary denials).

Mormon history is interesting stuff. I'm not sure I'd find it that interesting if I hadn't been a believer for decades, though.

The fact that Mormon history and culture are part of what makes me-- me, and the fact that I denied that for 40 years.Buffalo wrote:Mormon history is interesting stuff. I'm not sure I'd find it that interesting if I hadn't been a believer for decades, though.

Blixa,
I'm not too familiar with the aforementioned Reformation. What was that? You don't have to answer because I can look it up.
To everyone:
just because something is interesting doesn't mean you have to agree/abide by/acquiesce/love the subject. Everyone has a pet subject or two on this board. What are those?

Re: Vote! The most interesting Mormon feature
For others who do not care to look it up, the Mormon Reformation began in 1856, shortly after the handcart company fiasco. Brigham Young openly taught blood atonement. MMM was also part of it. BY and his lieutenants persecuted any apostates, potential apostates, and dissidents. This triggered further anti-Mormon reactions, including American military presence in Utah.
Mine is Nauvoo era stuff, and LDS bitterness against Nauvoo-era events. I just gained access to a bunch of files about that.
