Spiritual musings and doughnuts

Post by _zeezrom »

I'm not sure why I'm sharing this. I suppose it has to do with how spiritual I feel this morning. While riding my bike down a big hill to my office, the cold wind caused tears to flow from my eyes. It brought to mind the days of bearing testimony and getting that slightly nervous, teary feeling that I used to call the "Spirit welling up inside me."

I came into work this morning to find not one, but two large boxes of Krispy Kremes on the kitchen table. My, oh my, do they ever look delicious! But I am not partaking of them. You see, I'm fasting this morning in preparation to continue my translation of the Phaistos Disc later this week. Every time I pass the kitchen and see the doughnuts, I think of the Divine. Why is that? I think it goes back to how I was raised. I was raised to seek the help of God to prevent me from giving into a carnal desires. Naturally, I think of Athena every time I walk by the kitchen because She is the God I associate with most now. Well, the doughnuts have caused me to be very Athena-centered today. Isn't it amazing what doughnuts can do to a person?

But then, I look a little deeper and realize that Athena doesn't have time to care about me eating doughnuts this morning. She doesn't give a crap. I'm all on my own with this challenge. I will have to take charge and not eat them. There is no little devil tempting me and there is no powerful being helping me fast. It is just little 'ol me.

...but for the record... I will be seeking Her help in my translation of the Phaistos... just in case you were wondering... ;)
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

Add Bacchus to your worship and eat a donut.
It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.
