Christian Video:"Ain't no Homos Gonna Make it to Heaven"

Post by _DrW »

This video was a bit of a shock, especially when one realizes that this is exactly what the LDS Church does to its youth (albeit in a slightly more subtle fashion).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iRNbC-aSFLc

I wonder how BCSpace, Droopy, gdemetz, and other TBMs who drop in on the board feel about their fellow Christian travelers as shown in the video, especially when they realize that they themselves have exactly the same attitudes. Pretty ugly when you are on the outside looking in, isn't it?

And before you say “but Mormons are not like that”. Think about it.

I know that I received my early racist, homophobic worldview in a Mormon Church. It took a stint in US Marine Corps, leaving the LDS Church, and nearly a decade living outside the US to cure me of this particular side effect of Mormonism.

The kid hasn't learned that you don't say those things out loud. And when someone from the media asks if you believe homos aren't getting into heaven, you have to be able to say "we don't teach that. It's not official doctrine."

Exactly.

Did you notice that every adult male who comes on screen is in a suit? Must be a pretty conservative lot. Adults are encouraging this kid with whoops and cheering. They either had the kid perform the song more than once or there were multiple cameras in the meeting.

They think this is appropriate for Christian worship? Its about as appropriate as the ritualistic mock throat slitting and disembowelment that some of us engaged in while in the the LDS Church.

Perhaps, as a congregation, they were just engaging in some compensatory behavior now that DOMA has be ruled unconstitutional by a Federal Appeals Court in Boston.

(Mitt ought to be really happy about that one.)

The audience is just loving it. I think it's odd when religious people appear to be pleased or proud that some people will go to 'hell'. Shouldn't the eternal suffering of others be considered a tragedy?

It's because their devotion is founded upon the idea of being better than others and hating those who choose not to follow their religion. They rejoice while thinking about gays going to hell. It makes them feel valid and better than the next guy.

So this is the crowd that the LDS church decided to throw in with on Prop 8?
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.

'Homos' will make it to heaven. Probably not the heaven they hope for though.

I know a LOT of TBMs who share these exact feelings. They may not be so excited about it, but they would feel completely comfortable hanging out with these people.
