The Spirit Paradise
I am posting this as a new post since for some reason it has been deleted at least three times already.
When Christ told the thief on the cross that this day he would be with Him in paradise, He meant just as He said, "today." When Christ died, His body went to the spirit paradise to organize the gospel being "preached to the dead," and, of course, when the thief died, his spirit went with Christ. After Christ was resurrected, he told Mary Magdeline not to touch him since He had not yet ascended to His Father in heaven, which clearly shows that this spirit paradise was (is) not heaven!

Re: The Spirit Paradise
It proves nothing.
First, demonstrate that "spirit paradise" actually exists. Heaven too.
Secondly, even if we assume that they do, the fact that Jesus claimed not to have ascended to his father doesn't prove that where Jesus went after his death wasn't heaven, because it hasn't been demonstrated that Jesus couldn't have gone to heaven and just not checked in with his dad. If heaven has geographical extent, and Jesus' pappy isn't omnipresent there, then it's possible Jesus could have visited a subset of the heavenly geography without paying his respects to the old man.
This thread just provides a really good example of how bankrupt theologies are, which try to "prove" things about the universe by quote-mining a book written a couple thousand years ago by a group of people who weren't actually there.

Re: The Spirit Paradise
The post was not for the true Mormons here. Also, it is not very reasonable to me that Christ would have ascended to heaven and not bothered to greet Heavenly Father! I am writing things here from a theological viewpoint. If one is looking for physical proof of God or spirits, etc., then perhaps they need to investigate OBE's or something of that nature, which I have also commented on on this site.

Exactly! John 20:17 shows us that the paradise the thief to is not the place of salvation where God dwells. And now you can go on to 1 Peter 3 and 4 regarding what happens between death and the resurrection; the preaching of the Gospel.

[MODERATOR NOTE: Your posts weren't deleted. I merely got busy and forgot to check the post queue for a couple of days straight. I have since approved your posts; they're now in their original threads, safe and sound.
I apologize for my oversight.]

So there's a failure in the Bible to be more explicit about what Jesus was up to between the death and the resurrection, and since it seems unreasonable to you that Jesus would go to Heaven and not check in with God while he was there, instead you postulate the existence of another whole plane of existence?
What is the more parsimonious explanation?

And a good demonstration of how theology is concocted it was too. Thanks!

Hmmm...you need to study your religion in more detail.
From LDS.org
In the scriptures, the word paradise is used in different ways. First, as mentioned above, it designates a place of peace and happiness in the postmortal spirit world, reserved for those who have been baptized and who have remained faithful (see Alma 40:12; Moroni 10:34). Those in spirit prison have the opportunity to learn the gospel of Jesus Christ, repent of their sins, and receive the ordinances of baptism and confirmation through the work we do in temples (see D&C 138:30-35). If they accept the gospel and their temple work has been done, they may enter paradise.
A second use of the word paradise is found in Luke's account of the Savior's Crucifixion. When Jesus was on the cross, a thief who also was being crucified said, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom” (Luke 23:42). According to Luke 23:43, the Lord replied, “Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” The Prophet Joseph Smith explained that this is a mistranslation; the Lord actually said that the thief would be with Him in the world of spirits.
In short, you are making an assertion based on words in the Bible that your religion teaches are a mistranslation. Wait... that would mean we can't trust what the Bible states...

“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.”

Drifting, thank you for bringing that to my attention! I was not aware that it was a mistranslation until I read your post!
