Metal Music and the Loss of Faith

Post by _Nightlion »

I never went to a metal band concert. I was never inclined to. Never lifted up my hand in praise of Satan or his overt musical ministers. Never gave love back to the devil and his arch angers (you know what I mean).

Do the disaffected here think that basking in the love of darkness might have contributed to the demise of faith?
The song of the heart is a prayer. That is worship. If you sing heartily the anthems of hell you worship the devil.

No?

I am not saying simply hearing a song by AC/DC or Black Sabbath or whatever is/was hip is devil worship. Attending the concert........probably........... if you give yourself over to the moment heartily.

I doubt it. I suspect it has more to do with youth subcultures and the formation of early identity. I don't think it changes or affects much at the core of an individual. I could be wrong; there is something to be said about how the mass concert experience works to produce collective identities of all kinds.

I don't think "Satanic" metal music has a deep impact on most, however, some of the subgenres like Norwegian and Swedish black metal (which If I recall correctly are rival and opposing groups) has motivated a search for pagan worship---something not entirely the same thing as Devil worship (though there are those juvenile church burnings).

Chicken or egg? which came first?

For me, apostasy--then metal rock concerts.

Had it been otherwise, I might have caught AC/DC in the Bon Scott days and Black Sabbath before the breakup. Oh what might have been... .

I did see Led Zepplin twice before I was born again. But they were fledgling metal and had not yet written Stairway to Heaven.
They did open the door not even the Doors could open.

Yes, I do know. You recall rightly that I've heard it for myself.

There are those OUT THERE who will not believe this even though we both say it is so. :geek:
